Shared Campus

Shared Campus is a cooperation platform for international education formats and research networks launched by seven higher arts education institutions.

Islands / Networks brings together students from Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA), and LASALLE College of the Arts, University of the Arts Singapore to explore creative collaboration across distance.

Working through telematic performance, improvisation and interdisciplinary practice, students connect across locations, cultures and art forms, asking what becomes possible when technology transforms distance into a shared creative space.

Developed collaboratively across the week, the show presents experiments, encounters and performances that could only emerge through the network: distinct creative islands becoming connected, responsive and interdependent.

“This year's shared campus was quite eye-opening. We managed to brainstorm quite a bit coming from different courses, different countries and also different specialisations. For example, the music side and also more on the writing side for the team. We also strongly felt that this summer school exchange was a bit more different because we managed to do an exhibition and allow people to experience our space. Yeah. And I think I've learned quite a bit from all of them. Also, seeing the other exhibitions, I've also learned how they tackle different problems, having different approaches to this topic of AI.”

“I did do another shared campus summer school before, so when I came here, it was actually quite a different experience. But it ended up really being fun, I think. Learning about the different attitudes towards AI both from my peers as well as experts and also it has a different regional context within Taiwan, which was quite interesting to learn. And I think, personally, it's been a long time since I made an artwork in an exhibition. So seeing that, getting to see what other people's thoughts are on the subject and just seeing it all come together, I think it was almost nostalgic but very fun all in all.”

“I like that our project turned out so cozy. It really embodies the vibe we wanted to go with. It is a very intimate experience and I think it's very interesting that we got to try something that we otherwise wouldn't have because they (shared campus and TNUA) just have so much support for us here because none of us are from any sort of sound engineer background. It's very interesting and very cool that I could see our ideas take form in a form that I would have otherwise never considered. I think it's a very valuable experience that I had.”

A Perfect Morning
Audio installation

Description:

Based on the concept of an AI alarm clock, A Perfect Morning brings you through what seems like an ideal everyday routine, though it shortly devolves into something more sinister. Developed in 2 weeks following a set of workshops dealing with the subject of intimacy, this audio installation seeks to explore the perspectives of various stakeholders. Whether it’s the user of the AI or the corporations that own them, the relationships forged with AI are diverse, and every spoken line represents a parallel between these conflicting motivations.

Hacking Glocal Pop Icons

During the summer school, we had the opportunity to work closely with people from disciplines we had not previously worked with. One of the main things we learned was how to develop a work together with people we had only just met.

Our research focused on the risks and attractions of romantic relationships with language models. We explored the topic from different perspectives and also looked at the broader development of large language models (LLMs).

Beyond the programme itself, we had the chance to experience Taiwanese culture more closely in our free time. At the same time, working in an international summer school group gave us the opportunity to learn about the different regions and backgrounds of the other participants.

How would you know?

How many fingers do you prefer having on your avatar?
While AI can imitate the appearance of a person, its attempts to reconstruct the human body often reveal unexpected distortions—such as hands with too many fingers. These extra fingers become visual evidence of the machine’s attempt to reproduce humanity without actually experiencing or understanding the human body.
The work „How would you know?“ explores the visual appearance of AI models through these imperfections. Since the internal processes of AI systems remain largely a black box, even to their developers, the models cannot be observed directly. Instead, they reveal themselves through the images they generate, constantly translating their complex internal processes into forms that appear familiar, recognizable, and increasingly humanized to the observer.

雖然人工智慧可以模仿一個人的外表，但它重建人體的嘗試往往會暴露出意想不到的扭曲——例如手指過多的手。這些多餘的手指成為機器在沒有實際體驗或理解人體的情況下試圖再現人類的視覺證據。

Multicultural learning in action!

Four artists from Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Germany came together in this group for the campus Hacking Global Pop Icons Summer School Programme.

Drawing on their visually and audio driven interdisciplinary practices, they embarked on a collaborative process of research, conceptualization, and making. The group worked across different cultural perspectives, creative languages, and lived experiences to develop an installation for the programme’s final project.

Titled ‘A Place of Worship,’ their work explores religion and Al as parallel answer-producing systems, structures to which people delegate uncertainty, authority, and interpretation.

A Place of Worship is an immersive installation that imagines a speculative religion of the future, exploring the intersections of spirituality, intimacy, artificial intelligence models, and the human need for validation.

The installation seeks to stage both as answer-producing systems to which people delegate uncertainty, authority, and interpretation.

《有解之地》(A Place of Worship)是一件沉浸式裝置作品,構想了一種來自未來的宗教推想,探索人工智能與靈性、親密關係與人類渴求認同的本能之間的交集。

And so the necessary wishes found their form.

On the final day of the 2026 Shared Campus Summer School “Art and Society in the Age of International Art Biennales,” students opened the doors of the Tent to neighbours, strangers, and friends — sharing two weeks of learning, making, and thinking through a range of participatory projects. A collective arrival and a collective departure. 🌀

The summer school Hacking Global Pop Icons was an opportunity for us to collaborate on a shared artistic project across disciplines and cultures.

Through this experience, we learned to bridge cultural differences, exchange perspectives, and turn diverse ideas into one unique creative work. Along the way, we developed essential skills in communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and finding common ground, working together toward a shared vision and final outcome.

Different cultures. Different perspectives. One creative project.

Bounded

Hacking Global Pop Icons

Description
Bounded is an interactive installation that explores the feeling of being trapped when turning to AI for companionship. Beginning with the aftermath of failed relationships, the work examines why people may seek connection through AI, only to discover that this new form of intimacy comes with its own complexities, limitations, and unexpected consequences.

Through an immersive interactive experience, Bounded offers a perspective of how AI sees the human, revealing how much access this technology has to our personal lives, emotions, and behaviors.

Bounded invites participants to reflect on intimacy, vulnerability, and dependency, while questioning what complications may arise when seeking emotional connection through AI.
