Janin, Jenin - The story behind the movie

Filmmaker Mohammed Bakri returns to the Jenin refugee camp following its recent destruction by Israeli military forces in 2023. This is not the first time the camp has faced such devastation; in 2002, the Israeli army also razed Jenin, barring access to journalists and a UN fact-finding mission. Despite these restrictions, Bakri entered the camp, capturing the voices and stories of the bereaved in his groundbreaking film Jenin, Jenin.

Now, with Janin, Jenin, Bakri builds on the foundation of his earlier work, reflecting on the enduring resilience and ongoing struggles of the camp’s residents. The film offers a poignant and powerful narrative of survival and hope in the face of continued hardship.
