NEW Crochet Pattern - BADUS 👉 find it on Ravelry!

Badus is a modern crochet shawl that is designed to make the best use of a single skein of yarn. It features a long and slow gradient, starting from one corner with one color and finishing in the other corner (and around the piece) with a completely different one.

The yarn, Laines du Nord Poema, is especially suited for this design for two reasons. First, the Z-twist single ply construction is ideal for crochet; no splitting and weird twisting while crocheting! Furthermore, the soft no-pill merino makes it a pleasure to work with and wear around your neck.

Other yarns from the same series, such as Poema Glitter, Poema Nuance and Poema Tweed can also be used for this pattern.

The shawl is made by using simple techniques and basic crochet stitches. Increases and decreases are incorporated to create the smooth oval shape. It is a simple, relaxing and meditative design.

Working on a new Ruut top. In this one I am using leftovers from other projects, combined with mini skeins from a present I recently received. There’s bling! Beads, paillettes and stelina. Really like how it is going so far 🥰

My very first handspun cardigan is complete! And today I finally had the chance to take some pictures. It was an interesting project to work on and absolutely a pleasure to work with my own hanspun. It took longer to complete than I expected, but that’s normal when considering everything life has been throwing at me the last few months.
It is a bit wobbly at places, I suspect due to the gauge difference between the lace and heavy sport yarn, but mainly because it would need a good ironing. I am hoping that it will block nicely just by wearing 🤣 I have no energy for extra care steps at the moment.

Some crochet mojo is back! Recently I started working on this cardigan. I am using my FIRST EVER spun wool yarn with some yak lace I plied together to make it fi*****ng weight. The yarn is so awesome: it has elasticity, bounce and just glides through the hook. An absolute pleasure! 😍 Of course it’s very wooly and not very soft, but I don’t mind at all! Seeing my handspun take form is an amazing experience. 🥰

I often get asked (by my students and others), where do I get textile knowledge from. The answer is practice, practice, practice and study!

I search for good bibliography and then read as often as I can.

Here is an example: today I received 4 new books (out of which 3 are University textbooks) regarding textiles in general. All works of Elizabeth Wayland Barber, which completely revolutionized the field of Archeology regarding textiles.

If you want to learn more about her and her work, I highly recommend the recent podcast episode by .👌

Did you know you can easily modify Aplis?
You can add a second color and make stripes.
You can change the mesh rounds to solid ones.
Since this is a top-down design, you easily lengthen the sleeves!

In this example, I used up stash: handdyed and handspun swiss silk by and undyed natural merino Origen by .

I absolutely love the result and it was very fun to work on, especially at the yoke. 😍

I set a goal for myself in late summer. To reduce my large number of WIPs. I did it! I went from 13 ongoing projects down to 3 ( before I started casting on new ones ). Now I am doing a marathon on a stranded cardigan that I started on January 2023, which will be finished soon 😊. By restricting myself from starting new projects, I did not expect that I will almost entirely lose my knitting/crochet mojo. I am still struggling to get my motivation back on, even though I worked on some rather quick projects since then. Facing WIPs from several years ago and deciding whether to frog or finish was more energy draining than I expected. But the good news is that ALL of it is now resolved. 😉

I really like Margaritari, it has the perfect shape for summer. It is comfortable and fits very well. The square neckline gives me the option of showcasing fancy necklaces, while the generous armhole openings keep me cool even on the warmer summer days.
I have worn it a lot this summer and I am very happy to say that the yarn holds up very well to regular washing.

Aplis is such a cool design. It fits well and it’s very comfortable, even on warmer days, despite the fact that the yarn is mostly made of merino and silk.

I have worn this a lot this summer and it does not disappoint!

My hands are itching to start new Aplis tops with my handspun, but I promised myself not to cast on new projects before I finish my existing ones. Will I make it? 🤣🙈
