Visions du Réel a appris avec une profonde tristesse le décès de son fondateur, Moritz de Hadeln, à l'âge de 85 ans.
En 1969, aux côtés de son épouse Erika, Moritz de Hadeln fonde le Festival international de cinéma de Nyon, devenu en 1995 Visions du Réel. À la tête du Festival jusqu'en 1979, il pose les fondations d'un rendez-vous international consacré au cinéma documentaire, dont l'esprit continue d'animer chaque édition.
Après avoir dirigé Visions du Réel durant une décennie, il poursuit son parcours à la direction artistique du Festival de Locarno (1972–1977), puis à la tête de la Berlinale (1979–2001), où il contribue à marquer durablement l'histoire des grands festivals internationaux.
Visions du Réel rend hommage à un bâtisseur dont la vision, l'audace et l'engagement ont profondément façonné l'identité du Festival et continuent d'inspirer sa mission aujourd'hui. Nos pensées accompagnent sa famille, ses proches et toutes les personnes qui ont eu le privilège de croiser sa route.

Visions du Réel has learned with profound sadness of the passing of its founder, Moritz de Hadeln, at the age of 85.
In 1969, together with his wife Erika, Moritz de Hadeln founded the Festival international de cinéma de Nyon, which became Visions du Réel in 1995. Serving as the Festival's Director until 1979, he laid the foundations of an international event dedicated to documentary cinema, whose spirit continues to inspire each edition today.
After leading Visions du Réel for a decade, he continued his career as Artistic Director of the Locarno Film Festival (1972–1977), before becoming Director of the Berlinale (1979–2001), leaving a lasting mark on the history of some of the world's most important film festivals.
Visions du Réel pays tribute to a visionary whose boldness, commitment and pioneering spirit profoundly shaped the Festival's identity and remain woven in its mission today. Our thoughts are with his family, loved ones, and all those who had the privilege of crossing paths with him.
