How can we rethink the spaces we inhabit? What role can technology, architecture and collective action play in shaping more caring and inclusive urban environments?

The final theme of our Circle of Care, conceived by this year’s Artistic Director Teresa Retzer Teresa Retzer, brings these questions into the physical world.

Urban Actions | Spatial Utopias, developed by iart - studio for media architectures as part of the Circle of Care, explores how care can shape our built environments. Through conferences, hands-on workshops and spatial installations, the programme invites us to imagine and experience new ways of interacting with the spaces around us.

How can we create spaces for collective exchange in an increasingly fragmented world? What forms of publishing, sharing and collaboration can bring people together beyond established structures?

At Mesh 2026, Infrastructures of Care explores how we relate to one another, to technology and to the systems shaping our lives. The programme unfolds across seven interconnected themes, the Circle of Care, conceived by this year’s Artistic Director, Teresa Retzer Teresa Retzer.

Non-Public Publics brings together practices that resist logics of fragmentation, exploring alternative ways of gathering, publishing and sharing knowledge. The programme was specially conceived for Mesh by Make/Sense in collaboration with the Institute of Experimental Design and Media Cultures (IXDM) at Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Basel FHNW, as part of the Circle of Care.

What happens when we move beyond a culture of consumption and start thinking in cycles? How can technology, art and ecological thinking help us rethink the systems we depend on?

At Mesh 2026, Infrastructures of Care explores these questions through seven interconnected themes: the Circle of Care, conceived by this year’s Artistic Director, Teresa Retzer Teresa Retzer.

Circular Systems shifts the focus from consumption to ecological and technological cycles, exploring how we can rethink resources, infrastructures and our relationship with the environment.
