Here is my latest creation: an extended scale 7 string with a 666 mm scale length (26.2 inches). It features my new inlay of 17 individually inlaid HufGlow hexagons, referencing the 17 symmetry groups. It also introduces my new seven-string headstock design: a 3+4 layout built on precise geometrical rules, with proportions inspired by the golden ratio, continuous tangent curves, and optimized string alignment. Paired with my exclusive Torlon 4203 scalloped guitar nut, my own development. The guitar is fitted with Bartolini 7-string humbuckers.

This unique creation is crafted from a single piece of impeccably quartersawn, highly figured Sapele mahogany for both the body and the neck, topped with a highly figured Swiss flame maple from Le Jura. The fingerboard is Crelicam ebony. A defining feature is the intricate Celtic-knot engraving on the top, inspired by my grandmother’s Scottish and Welsh heritage—bold, historic, and personal.

The guitar features custom laser-engraved Lace Alumitone pickups, fully noiseless and comfortable across many playing styles. Inside the control cavity, I created a copper verdigris finish to bring artistry to a place that’s usually hidden. This model blends craftsmanship, personal history, and technical innovation.

A centerpiece of this instrument is a NOS Soviet KSG-2G silver-mica capacitor (0.027 µF ±5%, 500 V). It sits in a dedicated chamber under plexiglass so the player can see it. In my wiring it’s used only in the tone control circuit, where the value is what matters.

About the capacitor:

The KSG-2G series was built in the USSR for high-reliability military and industrial electronics—radio, radar, and communications—where stability was critical. As a hermetically sealed silver-mica part, it offers exceptionally low loss, tight tolerance, and long-term stability, and it’s engineered far beyond the requirements of a guitar circuit (with a 500 V rating). It’s often confused online with paper-in-oil types like K40Y-9, but KSG is mica, not PIO.

This guitar is part of a small series I’m building that showcases this historical component in the same dedicated, visible way—treating it as both an engineering artifact and an aesthetic signature.

Specifications:

-One-piece, impeccably quartersawn, highly figured Sapele mahogany body and neck

-Highly figured Swiss flame maple top from Le Jura

-Crelicam ebony fingerboard, 24 frets, 25.5" scale, 12" radius

-Golden fretwire in C425 brass (88.5% Cu, 9.5% Zn, 2% Sn)

-Nut made from PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) – another of my own material developments

-Hipshot hardware and high-tolerance CTS pots

-Luminlay fingerboard inlays

-NOS Soviet KSG-2G silver-mica capacitor, 0.027 µF ±5%, 500 V, displayed in a plexiglass chamber; used only for the tone control

-Custom black-anodized Alumitone Deathbuckers with my logo laser-etched

-Antique copper-finished coin logo inlay on the back

This unique creation is crafted from a single piece of impeccably quartersawn, highly figured Sapele Mahogany, used for both the body and the neck. The fingerboard is made from Crelicam ebony. A defining feature is the intricate Celtic knot engraving on the top, inspired by my grandmother's Scottish and Welsh heritage. The knot reflects a connection to Celtic traditions, and its bold presence across the guitar’s surface celebrates both history and individuality.

The guitar features custom laser-engraved Lace Alumitone pickups, ensuring compatibility across various playing styles and delivering a completely noiseless experience. Inside the control cavity, I created a unique copper verdigris effect, adding another layer of artistry to what is normally hidden. This model embodies my approach to guitar building, blending craftsmanship, personal history, and technical innovation.

Specifications:

-One-piece, impeccably quartersawn, highly figured Sapele Mahogany body and neck

-A premium Crelicam Ebony fingerboard with 24 frets, a 25.5'' scale, and a 12" radius

-Golden fretwire made from C425 alloy brass (88.5% Cu, 9.5% Zn, 2% Sn)

-A custom black Delrin nut with intricate scalloping

-High-quality Hipshot hardware and high-tolerance CTS pots

-Luminlay fingerboard inlays

-A NOS Russian K72P-6 PTFE (Teflon) 0.027uF capacitor — oversized for a guitar, used only for the tone control where the value is what matters. This marks the very first documented use of this specific capacitor in an electric guitar, chosen as a unique aesthetic signature highlighting a historical high-end part.

-Custom BLACK Anodized Alumitone Deathbuckers with my logo laser-etched

-An antique copper-finished coin logo inlay on the back

-Copper shielding and 25 coats of hand-applied oil-based varnish

Here’s my new build.
I’ve always loved purple guitars, but I didn’t want to go for the usual “purple candy bomb” look — the kind that makes it look like a lollipop. I wanted something more refined, more organic.

The finish on this guitar is meant to highlight the natural character of the wood, not cover it up. It’s vibrant, yes — but with a softness and elegance that I find more appealing than the typical high-gloss purple.

Highlights:

🪵 Body and neck made from premium, one-piece and perfectly quarter-sawn highly figured 'Sapele mahogany'
💜 Laser-engraved purple anodized Alumitone humbuckers
🌑 RichLite fingerboard – ultra-stable, sustainable, and resistant to fret sprout. Made from resin-infused paper composite. It looks like ebony but is physically superior and far more eco-friendly
🟨 Golden fretwire made from C425 alloy brass (88.5% Cu, 9.5% Zn, 2% Sn)
👻 Pioneering ‘Ghost Glow HufGlow’ block inlays – glow white in the dark. A world-first innovation
⚙️ Nut made from PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) – another of my own material developments
📏 25.5" scale, 24 frets
🔧 Vintage Silver Mica capacitor, with a rare 0.027µF value – a very unusual choice in guitar electronics. This capacitor was originally developed for military, aerospace, and nuclear tech, valued for its unmatched stability, precision, and high-voltage tolerance. Early models such as this one were housed in Bakelite casing.
Using them in a guitar — especially in this configuration — is a first, and entirely intentional.
✋ I have also included a stage grip on this guitar — a direct inspiration from the Ibanez JEM Steve Vai model. This is only the third guitar I have ever built with a stage grip. I chose to incorporate it simply because I felt it looked incredibly cool on this particular instrument, and it perfectly complements its overall character.

This guitar also features my faux binding technique, by leaving the maple edge unpigmented — a subtle touch I personally love.

Hufschmid Guitars handcrafted in Switzerland since 1996!

Patrick Hufschmid is an Anglo-Swiss luthier, plectrum builder, inventor and designer. He resides and works in the small town of Aigle which is located in the wine-growing district in close proximity to Montreux in Switzerland. He comes from a long musical family through his mother, Jennifer Paull, the internationally-renowned musician and author. Through her he is directly related to the celebrated composer Felix Mendelssohn.

As a child Patrick studied violin and piano, but found his real passion when he acquired his first guitar. An accomplished guitarist himself, he has now been playing for almost 30 years. In 1992, he bought his first 7-string guitar, which, at an early age, gave him the opportunity to experiment with extended range instruments.

Patrick Hufschmid studied Luthiery in the United States, at the celebrated Red Wing Technical College, Minnesota. His passion for history, especially that of the French Court at Versailles and Baroque music is his continuous source of inspiration.

Prior to his studies in the United States, Patrick qualified as a chef in Switzerland where he also put his passion and study of Haute Horologie to good use. He worked in its very top strata with the Swatch Group for their showcase prestigious chain of Haute Horlogerie. Here, he was a sales consultant specialist in the area of wristwatch complications. Many of the details he discovered in luxury brands added to his awareness of individualised presentation. For example, he enjoys the tradition of using sealing wax, a beautiful, historical detail he incorporates into his packages that are exported worldwide.
