Nestled on idyllic Lake Lucerne in one of the world’s most beautiful Old Towns, every year the city becomes a meeting place for leading performers from all over the globe – famous orchestras, legendary con

ductors, virtuoso soloists – who convene to celebrate a festival of sound. In Jean Nouvel's concert hall, equally famous for its phenomenal acoustics and exquisite architecture, they encounter visitors from Switzerland, Europe, and all around the world.

Minimalism has never sounded so alive.

The HSLU Ensemble brought Terry Riley's «In C» to the Luzerner Saal for an evening of pure pulse and repetition, each musician finding their own path through the same fifty-three phrases.

Seven prisoners, one escape, an hour of music that doesn't look away.

The Konzerthausorchester Berlin made its Lucerne Festival debut, joined by the Rundfunkchor Berlin, for Hans Werner Henze's «Sinfonia N. 9», led by Duncan Ward. The work is built on Anna Seghers's novel «The Seventh Cross», one of the essential testimonies of resistance literature.

No intermission, no easy resolution, just fifty-five minutes that left the Concert Hall in complete silence.

A garland of American melodies to close the summer.

Festival Strings Lucerne and Daniel Dodds, joined by flutist Karl-Heinz Schütz, moved from Dvořák's feather-light Scherzo through Florence Price's touching Andante cantabile to Corigliano's “Voyage,” inspired by Baudelaire.

Gershwin's gentle Lullaby, Bernstein's Waltz, and finally Copland's Hoe-Down brought the afternoon to its liveliest close.

A long-awaited debut, and every bit worth the wait.

Hilary Hahn brought mischief and joy to Dvořák's Violin Concerto, a piece she calls “an absolute blast”, in her first Lucerne Festival appearance.
The Vienna Philharmonic and Tugan Sokhiev followed with a suite from Prokofiev's “Romeo and Juliet,” flair, wit, and heartbreak in equal measure.

Images you could see with your eyes closed.

The Vienna Philharmonic / Wiener Philharmoniker brought Mozart's early Symphony in G minor, K. 183, the “Little” one written when he was just seventeen, vividly to life, before turning to the storms of life and love in Mahler's First Symphony under Tugan Sokhiev.

Stephan Heuberger opened the second portrait of composer-in-residence Mark Andre with “iv 15. Himmelfahrt” for organ, before Frank Reinecke's double bass entered the dialogue for “iv 19. Pfingsten – Echos.”

America, unleashed in the Lucerne Hall.

“Artiste étoile” Augustin Hadelich's Fiddle Night brought Maggie and Mark O'Connor together with him for the first time, weaving folk, country, and bluegrass into one continuous, uninterrupted evening.
A joyous romp, exactly as promised.

An anniversary written into the program itself.

Fifty years after her Lucerne Festival debut, Anne-Sophie Mutter gave her 50th concert here, performing Penderecki's Violin Concerto No. 2 “Metamorphosen” with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Manfred Honeck.

Dvořák's Symphony “From the New World” closed the night, a fitting echo of an American Dream theme running through the whole summer.
