Around this sudden drop in the river Reuss flowing out of the Vierwaldstätte Lake in Lucerne, which I drew and painted in 2017 in my Luzern sketch book I do believe that Lucerne began, in the stone age I surmise. Of course it must have looked quite different then. No bridges, no cafés, no churches, no galant ferry steamers, no casinos, no town centre, no tourists, no fascinating murals on the fine houses, just waterfalls, forest and surrounding alpine peaks, White and pearly, like a knecklace, and of course swans and people like Leo Burach who could whisper to the swans and be understood even then.
