Our hobby is complex enough as it is. Together with the community, we came up with a new platform to help remove some of the unnecessary difficulties for Re**ers 💡

Some species that live on reefs produce chemical compounds which could be used to create new medical treatments to treat cardiovascular diseases, leukemia, lymphoma, skin cancer and potentially others, more effectively 🧬

There is a lot of research happening and we might get to see some breakthroughts soon

Environmental impact and animal protection are also being considered for the ongoing research. It may even help reefs to get the protection they urgently need!

Get to know the team behind Build Your Tank! Meet Simon, the Re**er and director of BYT

What I'm doing at BYT:
I try to keep the project moving forward and (ideally) in the right direction. And I take care of all the other stuff that’s not writing code, someone has to do it

Why I'm working on BYT:
I believe that our reefing community deserves better tools to simplify and manage our beautiful hobby. As a passionate re**er with my professional background, I decided to “just” build a new platform

My background:
In my professional journey I guided a lot of software projects as a project manager, business analyst and consultant. So I know what to look for when building a platform like BYT

What else should we know?
The love for the ocean, lakes and aquariums have always accompanied me in my life. I had freshwater aquariums from when I was a little kid, started diving early and have been involved in the reefkeeping hobby for a few years now

Get to know the team behind Build Your Tank! Meet Stefan, our lead backend developer

What I'm doing at BYT:
I’m responsible for the more technical side of things. That includes the architecture and coding of the backend as well as data modelling.

Why I'm working on BYT:
It’s a very interesting project with the potential to make the life of many re**ers easier. Also, our team is well balanced and fun to work with.

My background:
Originally, I was trained as a full stack developer and am now focusing on backend software engineering and architecture. I’m also active in training new developers.

What else should we know?
Technical stuff has always interested me a lot. I built my own servers and home automation. In my free time I enjoy typical Swiss activities like hiking, skiing and driving alpine passes with my car.

I’m looking forward to hearing your feedback on the platform as soon as we launch.

Keeping a reef aquarium is a wonderful hobby, but it’s not always as easy as it could be.
These are the main issues we currently see:

- Finding information about or choosing animals, plants and products involves a lot of research and reading

- Buying and selling coral frags or other animals can be a very time-consuming and even frustrating process

- Some mistakes could be avoided by just having the right information available at the right time

With Build Your Tank we want to address these issues and offer a better alternative with our knowledge base, aquarium configurator and marketplace.

Let us know in the comments what areas of the hobby you would like to have simplified.

Die Haltung eines Meerwasseraquariums ist ein wunderbares Hobby, aber es ist nicht immer so einfach, wie es sein könnte.

Das sind die wichtigsten Probleme, die wir derzeit sehen:

- Die Suche nach Informationen oder die Auswahl von Tieren, Pflanzen und Produkten erfordert viel Zeit und Recherche

- Der Handel mit Korallen oder anderen Tieren kann ein sehr zeitaufwändiger und sogar frustrierender Prozess sein

- Einige Fehler könnten vermieden werden, wenn man nur die richtigen Informationen zur richtigen Zeit zur Verfügung hätte

Mit Build Your Tank möchten wir diese Probleme angehen und mit unserer Knowledge Base, dem Aquarium-Konfigurator und dem Marktplatz eine einfachere Alternative bieten.
