Monika - Artful Lines

Monika - Artful Lines I’m an artist working with collage, photography, digital art, linocut, and poetry. Her photographic work focuses on light, texture and overlooked details.

I combine visual storytelling and words to explore beauty, meaning, and creative expression across mediums. Monika Baechler‑Dombay is a Swiss artist working at the intersection of digital collage, photography and text. She combines original photographs with sourced imagery to build layered compositions that question perception and memory.

There’s a quiet yet irreversible moment when childhood slips out of reach. In this mixed media collage, blue skies are streaked with unnatural precision, and a child’s innocence fades into a world marked by sterile soil and altered air. “Blueprints in the Sky” captures the eerie contrast between the soft beauty of childhood and the harsh reality of an engineered environment. Every detail, the cracked ground, discarded toys, skyward trails, whispers of something lost, something familiar, and something hidden in plain sight.
“Blueprints in the Sky” invites you to pause and remember what we didn’t notice losing. Digital Collage by Monika Baechler-Dombay

What are you going to do on a rainy Sunday? I felt inspired by this beautiful teal magazine advertisement from 1962. Blue Fragmentum by Monika Baechler-Dombay (Original 20cm x 28cm) Mixed media collage with gold leaf, 2025

In creating *Blue Fragmentum*, I began with a retro 1960s magazine advertisement. Its bold teal hues and graphic polka dot motifs instantly evoked an era of optimism. I cut the picture into small squares and then rearranged them in a seemingly random yet visually pleasing grid. This act of deconstruction and reassembly mirrors how memories shuffle and reorder themselves in our minds.
Once the collage was glued in place, I introduced gold leaf across the surface.

Through this process, I'd like you to reflect on how fragments of the past, cultural artefacts, personal recollections, and fleeting impressions can be transformed into a new, unified experience. *Blue Fragmentum* is both an homage to mid-century visual culture and an exploration of the mosaic nature of memory, where each shard, each gilded highlight, contributes to the story of the whole.

Did you know Marcus Dawson dresses jazz legends in regal attire?
He hand‑cuts analogue collages of musicians and reclothes them in vibrant, luxurious garments to celebrate their brilliance rather than their struggles.
