Launched in 2003, Open Doors aims at assisting directors and producers from countries in the South and the East, where independent filmmaking is vunerable.

A cross-cutting initiative of Locarno Film Festival – launched in 2003 – promoting cinema from the South and the East, now focusing on Latin America and the Caribbean.

Putting the spotlight on “Concrete Moves” by Fagamou Fama Ndiaye, which received ‘The Environment Is Quality of Life’ Prize at .

Selected by the independent Open Doors Junior Jury, the film was recognised for the way it explores the connection between the environment and quality of life. The prize is supported by the Department of Territory of the Republic and Canton of Ticino.

Ique Langa will present his feature film O profeta (Fiction, 94’, Mozambique, Qatar, South Africa ,2026) in the Open Doors Screenings Section.

Langa’s haunting and deliberate feature debut – which premiered at the 2026 International Film Festival Rotterdam – draws inspiration from the masters of transcendental style, from Dreyer to Schrader, to unfurl a parable of faith, temptation, and ambition.

Dani Kouyaté will present his feature film Katanga, la danse des scorpions (Fiction, 113’, Burkina Faso, 2025) in the Open Doors Screenings Section.

Dani Kouyate’s engrossing drama re-imagines Macbeth in Africa. Born to a Griot family in June, 1961, in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, Dani Kouyaté was early on involved with performance theatre before turning to film.
