March 2023, Geneva — attempting to write, untanglin the threads — [Notes/references] reframing history: 1960’s Paris, theatre of the struggle for independence, political dissension and dissidences. Revolution. Frenzied enumeration. October 17, 1961, murderous repression, massacre. In the absence of anything better, surveys of anonymous post-independence exiles. Resistance. Rue des Couronnes, Barbès, la Goutte d’Or; self-organization in associations, anti-racist meetings anti-expulsion legal services and free psychological counselling; struggle for immigrants’ rights. April 20, 1980 in Kabylia and Algiers, beginning of the Berber Spring [Tafsut Imaziɣen], first popular movement of opposition to the authorities since the country’s independence in 1962. Paris, on the night of the 5th to 6 of December 1986, death of Malik Oussekine, student killed by police brutality. Attempting to follow a sensible punctuation; Maître Ali Mécili, spokesman and friend to one of the leaders of the Algerian opposition in exile [Hocine Aït Ahmed], assassinated on April 7, 1987. Unspoken hindrances. 6 Allée des Dames [where the first Radio Assifah tapes were duplicated]; Pont de Bezons [next to Nanterre, where many demonstrations originated and where bodies were retrieved from the river], Square Saïd Bouziri [activist in the Mouvement des Travailleurs Arabes] ; Pont de l’Alma - zouave, water levels of the floods of the Seine; 115 boulevard Saint Michel - handouts in high schools and universities, frantic quest for effective and efficient means of communication.

💜We are so thrilled to announce our upcoming exhibition with Mina Squalli-Houssaïni “Ils pourront couper toutes lesfleurs, ils n'empêcheront pas la venue du printemps”

Opening on March 10th from 6-9pm

(FR)
The exhibition recalls fictional journeys inspired by real protagonists, dissimulated by the dominant powers and commanded to secrecy in battle. The artist develops a rhizomatic thinking of traces and uses alternative family and documentary archives as a resource. Her sculptures evoke the denied existences and unresolved matters of history. In this installation, the territory becomes a memorial tray and light is used as a preliminary gesture to counteract the strategies of oblivion and silence. 💖Agapornis, Access, 2022
Part of on view at Confederation Centre

is an experimental art lab with two curators: Zoé Marmier and Louise Jarrige-Le Berre. Like the inseparable lovebirds whose scientific name (Agapornis sp.) has inspired their moniker, this collaborative fashion project has the unique quality of being based on a love for collective creativity. Agapornis becomes manifest in an enchanted world, with objects inspired by fantastic repertoires that are theatrical whilst also using artisanal savoir-faire. This excess of elegance becomes a plea for another world: that of Agapornis! A place filled with dreams and freedom, where creations are designed and produced in close conversation with the duo’s friends and collaborators, all of whom take turns being the project’s muses and artisans.

Zoé Marmier and Louise Jarrige-Le Berre formed this duo during their Fashion Design studies at HEAD Geneva. Zoé Marmier’s work explores the performative character of stage clothes immersed in daily life, where the poetry and politicization of the Drag are made manifest, the experience of one’s alter ego is affirmed, and reflections on gender, hyperfemininity, and the collective are opened up. Louise Jarrige-Le Berre’s work questions images and the appropriation of the feminine – in terms of body and attitudes – along with the notion of tenderness as both an intimate process and a political act that moves from the individual to the collective, initiating a new praxis of fashion. Beyond their friendship, they share common values while dreaming of future fashions. In 2021, their collaborative fashion project, Agapornis – for which they are the creators and curators – was born. It can be described as a laboratory where research and experiments on textiles are carried out, and where the pleasure of seeing, doing, and wearing are interwoven. It is a space for reflecting on collaboration, craftsmanship, celebration, and care as a process.

Eytana is an emancipation guide. Her practices are at the intersection of the fields of care, holism and art. She is interested in the transformative aspects, both individual and collective, brought about by her modes of creation. It is because of his awareness of the value system that surrounds him, "white supremacy-cis-capitalist-validist-satanic", that his practices have taken on a transgressive and radical scope of action since 2020. Eytana is a cultural revolutionary: she inspires us to go further than the known, to dive into the underground waters of our consciences in order to unravel the knots of our conditioning. She uses and uses all the means at her disposal to practice her arts. Pinkwashing and tokenization are just opportunities for her to seize.

We are happy to invite you to the opening of Zahra Hakim's solo exhibition on

FRIDAY
October 18th from 6-9pm

The concept of memory and the passage of time are major themes in Zahra Hakim's practice. The artist explores ways to use materiality, as well as mutualism and caring, to awaken a space's spirit. The practice of care frequently comes to light via observation and dialogue, and as a result, resilience can develop, assisting us in continuing to live and accept our reality.

In this perspective, Zahra's exhibition is accompanied by a dinner taking place once a month in the space. Dates and subscribtions in the link in bio.
