Did you know we recently hit 40k followers over on Instagram? 🎉
I thought it was only fitting to share some of my favourite 40k miniatures this week to celebrate!

: I love the Dark Angels aesthetic and this one is so perfectly executed - the weathering and lightning sword is so effective!

: Can we just take a moment to talk about how clean these edge highlights are on this Marneus Calgar.
akore: Now Emperor's Children are my army of choice so perhaps I'm a little biased, but I'm obsessed with the colour schemes painters choose for them. This is such a clean and vibrant example!
tabletopart: painted this salamander conversion a while back but I just think the decisions on colour here are so great and pop so much on display or on a tabletop.

Tell me, what's your favourite 40k faction to paint? What do you love about them?

Painting clean white can feel incredibly intimidating. A lot of people jump straight to pure white paint, but that usually leaves the finish looking flat, chalky, or difficult to control.

In this reel, I’m showing how I build up smooth white cloth using cool shadows, layering, glazing, and controlled highlights to create contrast and depth. I hope this can help you feel less intimidated when trying white schemes!

Pro Tip: The closer to white the paint the chalkier it can be, so don’t try to force full coverage in one coat. Instead, use multiple thin smooth layers and gradually build the brightness up over time.

White is one of those colours we all seem to dread. But understanding the theory behind it makes the process so much easier.

Cool blue-grey tones create cleaner, crisper finishes, while warmer creams and browns give a much softer, more natural feel. Understanding those undertones makes painting white actually quite fun.

In this reel, I’m breaking down how I approach different white colour schemes and why contrast and shadow placement matter so much when painting them. Stay tuned next Monday where I will be walking you through how to paint crisp and clean white cloaks!

My hobby inspo this week! These 4 pieces stopped my scroll and immediately made me want to paint!

Some pieces just pull me in to take a closer look, to zoom in and see the techniques, the brush strokes (or lack of them) and taking what I can to learn from them.

: The smooth gold blends with that purple is so aesthetically pleasing.
Elminiaturista : Pieces like this make me want to push for more OSL effects like the lightning and lantern.
Roman Lappat - Miniature Art : I love the atmosphere created with that beautifil skin tone!
: Go watch the videos on this one if you havn't already! Watching the sketching build to this result is fascinating.

I love that this hobby has a place for everything and so much talent to appreciate!

There is nothing worse than spotting a building mistake in the middle of painting. It has happened to me so many times and its incredibly frustrating. Mould lines and rough cuts can feel insignificant when you are building, but once you start painting they can become eye sores.

In this reel, I'm sharing a few common build mistakes I try to catch before painting and some simple tips to avoid them.

Pro Tip: Keep your cutters sharp. Avoid using sprue cutters or precision nippers on wire or other hard materials, as this can damage the blades.

Have you tried our Precision Nippers yet?
Thankyou Josua Lai for these stunning photos of them being put to good use. We’re so pleased you enjoy them as much as we do.
RGG precision nippers have been carefully selected for their superior ability to remove miniature plastic components and scale model plastic parts from their sprues with the cleanest of cuts. With our clippers, clean up will be minimal. The sharp, angled blade makes removing plastic models off their sprues a real joy.
Take any stress out of your build and enjoy the process!

Following on from his incredible Gold winning entry at this year’s MPO, I wanted to give Zumikito's painting the spotlight this week!

Here you can see his winning piece alongside a few of my other favourite works from his page. I’ve always loved the way he combines colour, atmosphere, and different techniques to create so much depth and character in his miniatures.

Zumikito has been a huge inspiration in my own painting journey, especially in the way he pushes beyond more traditional painting styles and isn’t afraid to experiment with colour and atmosphere.

If you’re not already following his work, definitely check out his Instagram, YouTube, and Patreon. There’s honestly so much to learn from the way he approaches painting and creativity. What artists inspire your own painting the most?

What’s your favourite painting style? We love them all here at Redgrass but it’s so fun to see different styles in the same hobby. The way Thunderbrush has used cell shading and clean black outlines in his work gives a really unique look to models and is so impactful!

Would you try this with some of your models? What models do you think would be great in this style?
