Egyptian Light Green Faience Sistrum In The Form of a Naos

-A faience sistrum dedicated to Hathor features a janiform head with bovine ears and a necklace, above a naos-shaped frame once fitted with metal bars that produced rhythmic sound.

Used in the cults of Hathor and Isis, its sound was believed to please the goddess, evoke the Delta’s reeds, and protect women in childbirth.

Likely dating to late Dynasty 25, such faience sistrums were symbolic votive objects rather than practical instruments, valued for both ritual meaning and artistic refinement.
