Likely almost everybody has heard this piece, but can you learn something from it?
This video explores the Colonel Bogey March by Kenneth J. Alford from 1914 and shines a light on it's typical 3-part structure that you can recognize while listening to other marches or even use for your own first steps as a composer, because the piece has an easy structure to follow with distinct melodic ideas that don't have to be connected or related to each other.
The video series "What can you learn from this?" is an educational project by musician, conductor and composer Jonathan Mauvilly that tries to bring musical facts to a big audience while staying short and entertaining. In this short format, the videos don't claim to be complete, but more of a starting point for your own reflection and ideas.
