Zumthor House by Peter Zumthor , Chur, Switzerland

Designed by Swiss architect Peter Zumthor for his own occupation, this minimalist property is comprised of open multi-functional spaces.
Of the house, Zumthor said, ‘Living and working, family, children, grandchildren; spaces for living, spaces for working with younger colleagues, or inventing and planning buildings – to me these things belong together, and that is what the house was built for.’

Casa Gilardi by Luis Barragán
Directed by César Pesquera

In the In Residence series, NOWNESS visits the last house designed by legendary Mexican architect Luis Barragán, Casa Gilardi. By the time current homeowner Martin Luque and advertising agency partner Pancho Gilardi approached Barragán to ask for a house design in 1975, the architect had already formally retired. He originally declined to take on the project – until he made a visit the site, where he was captivated by a remarkably beautiful jacaranda tree. Changing his mind, Barragán remarked, “Don’t chop down this tree, because the house will be built around it.”

Hermès at Milan Design Week 2022
The colourful set is inspired by brutalist water towers, whose forms were replicated with voluminous wooden structures covered in translucent coloured paper. The four structures by Studio CMP Charlotte Macaux Perelman and set design by Hervé Sauvage glow in the cavernous space, their jewel hues concealing the maison’s latest furniture and accessories.
