While upstart is enjoying a spout of sleeping beauty - Andrew and Nicolaia have been working with the class 2F at the Münsterplatz Gymnasium - performances of Max Frisch's Andorra were postponed from April to September but work is still going on, as is their fundraiser on go fund me:

The wait is almost over!

...a little project kept me busy for a couple of days during lockdown and if we manage to raise the funds, will keep me busy for a bit longer:

A theatrical-concert, a birthday party for the composer and singer Pauline Viardot, it is her 200th anniversary next year, and no, she's not still alive... :-)

We are fundraising, so that we can make it happen in May 2021 in the hope this crisis is easing off by then, or we have found great ways to live with it... We prefer the first, of course!

It's been very quiet here, we know.... but so has much of the entertainment industry and the crisis that created this deafening silence is far from over!

We've not been entirely idle - working on the development of a play - and will do some theater-work outside of upstart's immediate scope (a school play - as well as the elective subject of 'Acting in English' at the Münsterplatz Gymnasium) by which we are fulfilling parts of our promise to work and engage with young people and give them tools that are usable beyond the field of acting and theater.

We are missing the planning and the running of great theater projects and are trying to also think of how we can create and present and share important stories with you, even with the challenges at hand.

In the meantime, we hope you are all well and help each other out in hard times and we look forward to being back with and for you!

Restrictions are gradually lifting, freedoms are re-found, or new-found and cherished, we're happy to enjoy the outdoors and widen the radius around our house again and are grateful that we are doing well and certainly better than many, especially in this line of business!

We hope you are all doing well - and that we will be able to meet to make the magic of live-theater happen again!

All of a sudden we find ourselves in somewhat dystopian times - where much of our lives have moved online and are carried out from our chairs, glued to a screen....

Didn't we just put on a show that had certain aspects of this? Last June, with The Nether?

We are using this 'extra' time, we just were given - to continue working on the play script for the next production which we still hope to be able to share with you this year.

In the meantime, stay home, if you can, stay safe if you can't, but above all stay positive - we may not all be in the exact same boat but we're in similar boats on the same ocean - and together - we will make the best of it and get ashore again.

A Christmas Carol with Neil has moved on to our northern neighbours and we at upstart are using the upcoming hibernation time to get cracking on the next project - we'll let you know more soon!
