Hawaiian baritone Jordan Shanahan has performed over 75 leading roles at theaters around the world. Success in a number of significant international competitions led to invitations to join Opera Studio Nederland and The Ryan Opera Center at Lyric Opera Chicago. After a vibrant early career in the United States which included regular work at the Metropolitan Opera, he moved to Europe in 2013. Since

winning the 1st prize in the Meistersinger von Nürnberg competition, he has been in great demand to sing the leading roles of the German dramatic repertoire. Some recent projects of note include the title role in Rigoletto at the Bregenz Festival, Don Carlo di Vargas in La Forza del Destino in Modena and Cologne, Tamare in Die Gezeichneten in Hannover and Jochanaan in Salome at the Daegu Opera Festival in S. Although 2020 has delayed his scheduled debuts with Oper Frankfurt and Deutsche Oper am Rhein in productions of Der Fliegende Holländer, Salome, and La Forza del Destino, he will make his debut at Deutsch Oper Berlin as Alberich in the new Harheim Ring Cycle with Sir Donald Runnicles. Other upcoming debuts are scheduled in Zürich, at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as well as projects which will bring him back to Bregenz, Graz, Essen and Bern. Recent commercially available recordings include his Escamillo on a new DVD release of Carmen as well as new CD releases of Peter Eötvös’ opera Senza Sangue and two opera’s of Othmar Schoeck - Das Schloss Dürande and Vom Fischer un Syner Fru.

Today we will give our last performance of Die Walküre in Cologne. The process and responsibility of taking on this role has been one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had, and although I will be returning to the Walküre Wotan in the future this experience will always have a special place in my mind.
