In the attempt to decolonize my thoughts around writing, I picked up a thought in university, that academics and makers alike are praised for their individual efforts but not so much when they create together, for academic success hinges upon individual creation and thought processes. The same often goes for artistic creation, or for that matter all forms of creation. But what happens when we move beyond individualism? What doors will open? Collaborative creating is more than the sum of its parts, it moves beyond what we could have done alone, co-creation brings ideas into existence that could not have been birthed by an individual. We slowly realize then that together we can create more than we could alone. And while that is a simple thought (for some), it transformed my idea of what this space, this art collective could become. (By )
