The Gay Beggars
Your friendly Basel neighbourhood English language amateur theatre group

The Gay Beggars are an independent non-professional theatre company which specialises in the production of plays written in English. Founded by students of the English Seminar in 1941, the Gay Beggars have managed to keep up the long-standing tradition of staging at least one play a year. The late Professor Rudolf Stamm instigated their use of the marvellous Cellar Theatre, which opened in 1969. I

n addition to the annual performances in the Cellar Theatre, there have been many performances in other venues in Switzerland and Europe.
