A new ‘change’ is on the way!
For the past two months, we’ve been quietly testing and experimenting behind the scenes, trying to come up with new, never-tried-before ways of painting. In the process of doing so, we realised that the more we focus on developing our own practice, the more it sharpens our teaching. At the same time, we came up with a novel idea of combining our expertise in fine art with interior decoration - the two areas which Anne, a former interior designer and artworker for top art establishments, excels in. We will reveal more on this as it’s hard to unload all of our new plans in a post, thus we hope to unveil our new direction bit by bit as we go along. Do support us by staying tuned! ❤️

Dog days.. which is which? Which do you think is painted by renown artist (one of my favourite) David Hockney, aged 85, and which is by first-time September Holiday Workshop participant Edith, aged 7?
I decided to post this today because of the weather (so nice to sleep in, but gotta work!) and also for the lead up to the December Holiday Workshop [stay tuned next week for details!]. Edith and her brother had almost immediately settled for Hockney’s less exposed painting when they saw it, commenting that they really like this particular painting (good choice!). But I think it could be that they have an adorable dog at home so hence the affiliation? Anyway they said they enjoyed the painting process, where participants had to learn about paint handling and colour-mixing rules (as well as and how to mix nicer / more sophisticated colours) before embarking on their actual painting. Their mom will be framing their works as well~ So glad that they like it as a family! 🤭❤️

Valerie (aged 10)’s second lesson, applying my drawing techniques to life objects. She’s one of my handful of highly teachable student with the potential to excel in this (and I think many) areas of art. Highly receptive and intelligent, I asked her within the first 5 minute we met, to draw her usual way of drawing, which is how most people start their drawing on a blank piece of paper, drawing like how one would explore and trek around, from one point to another. For the rest of the lesson she patiently follows the new way of drawing, which is what I call the ‘architecture’ or ‘building project’ method. She commented it’s really a lot faster, and her new drawings look more proportionate, as though they were drawn by a different person~ (a pity I always tend to photograph works of at least reasonable quality and not the ‘before’ works as comparison..) She is one of the proven fact/examples I’ve had where it’s not about the “flair” or whatever fanciful word used to describe one’s artistic ability, but rather teachability - receptiveness and readiness to follow - alongside the right teaching, that produce wonders [but having one without the other is like……….] I’m really impressed by her attitude towards learning and respectfulness - stay tuned for more of her beginner’s journey! 😊
