Excited to finally share this collaboration with CBC/Radio-Canada!
Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to create illustrations for the National Indigenous Strategy 2025–26 Progress Report.
It was an honour to bring themes of connection, storytelling, healing, and community into this work while incorporating inspiration from Inuit art and design. The front page was inspired by indigenous people connecting with their content and the description reminded me of when I would leave the faces bare so people could view themselves in my work☺️
Thank you to everyone who to support my art. ❤️
This year we worked with urban Inuk (Baker Lake, Nunavut) artist Saelym DeGrandpre (Taqqiq) to create images for the National Indigenous Strategy’s 2025-26 progress report. Which is out now! tr.ee/4CeVT8TLQo
Here’s what Saelym had to say:
“While creating these pieces, I wanted them all to feel visually cohesive while still representing different forms of connection, storytelling and community. I aimed to create illustrations that let viewers see themselves in the images and connect with the themes. For this reason, I left some figures without detailed facial features to make the work feel more open and relatable. The designs are inspired by gathering, healing, storytelling and reconnection. They use contemporary illustration with visual elements from Inuit art and textiles.”
