πŸ‡΅πŸ‡πŸŽ‰ A Year Ago: 2025 Summer Program – Laro ng Lahi!

On August 16, 2025, we held Laro ng Lahi, the last activity in our Summer Program 2025, β€œCelebrating Filipino Heritage: A Summer of Culture, Tradition and Community.” And what a fun and successful day it was!

Children enjoyed traditional Filipino games, and parents joined in the fun too. It was wonderful to see parents teaching the kids how the games were played and sharing these Filipino traditions with the next generation. πŸ‡΅πŸ‡β€οΈ

A big thank you to all the children and parents who participated and to our volunteers who helped make Laro ng Lahi such a success!

As we look back on the last activity of our Summer Program 2025, we also extend our heartfelt thanks to our Bayanihan directors β€” Jhonnette Principe-Derkatch, Jei Zel Tolentino, Esmar Maramba (Star Relatado), and Hanna Delos Santos β€” whose hard work and dedication in securing funding, planning, organizing, and carrying out the activities helped make the entire summer program possible. A special thank you as well to Samuel Derkatch, who contributed so much in helping carry out the activities throughout the program.

Our sincere thanks also go to all our instructors: Mrs. Colette Karapita (Band Workshop), Mrs. Edz T. Badowich (Storytelling and Crafting), Mr. Samuel Derkatch (Storytelling & Crafting), Mr. Michael Forster (Arnis Workshop), Mrs. Jhonnette Derkatch (Folk Dance Workshop), and Ms. Gabrielle Ballado (Painting Workshop), for sharing their skills, knowledge, and expertise throughout the summer. We are equally grateful to all our volunteers who generously gave their time and support throughout the program.❀️

We are also grateful to our sponsors and supporters: Community Initiatives Fund, SaskCulture, Sask Lotteries, Yorkton This Week, and Kat's Healing Massage, whose support helped us bring these cultural activities to our community.

Maraming salamat to everyone who was part of our Summer Program 2025! πŸ‡΅πŸ‡β€οΈ

πŸŽ¨πŸ‡΅πŸ‡ On This Day Last Year: Filipino-Themed Painting Workshop!

A colourful throwback to our 2025 Summer Program! On August 9, 2025, we held our Filipino-Themed Painting Workshop, led by painting instructor, Gabe Ballado!

Twenty-two youth painted Mt. Mayon, famous for its near-perfect cone shape and located in the Bicol Region of the Philippines, while Gabe shared the legend behind their subject as she guided them through their paintings. It was a creative afternoon that brought Filipino art, storytelling, and culture together. πŸŽ¨β›°οΈπŸ‡΅πŸ‡

A big thank you to Gabe for leading such an engaging and meaningful workshop, to all 22 youth who joined us, and to our volunteers for their help and support throughout the activity.

We are also grateful to our sponsors, Community Initiatives Fund, Kat's Healing Massage, and Yorkton This Week, for helping make cultural activities like this possible. β€οΈπŸ‡΅πŸ‡

πŸŽ‹πŸ’ƒ A wonderful day of Tinikling at the Summer Dayz Program in Langenburg!

It was our pleasure to introduce 10 campers and 3 camp staff to the Philippines' bamboo dance through an interactive Tinikling workshop. Together, they learned the rhythm, worked as a team, and experienced a part of Filipino culture. It was especially rewarding to see many participants quickly pick up the rhythm and grow more confident with each round.

A big thank you to the Summer Dayz organizers, the Town of Langenburg, the camp staff, and all the campers for welcoming the Bayanihan Filipino Arts and Culture Club. We truly appreciate the opportunity to share Filipino culture with your community.

πŸŽΆπŸ‡΅πŸ‡ Another wonderful performance by the Bayanihan Band and Bayanihan Dance Troupe!
We were honoured to take part in the rescheduled Canada Day Picnic and Celebration on July 15 at the Western Development Museum Grounds.

Mrs. Colette Karapita beautifully sang O Canada, accompanied by the Bayanihan Band during the opening ceremony. The band also performed Magtanim ay 'Di Biro and The Tempest, while the Bayanihan Dance Troupe showcased the traditional Filipino dances Aray, Malong, and Kalatong/Bulaklakan.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and supported our performers. It is always a privilege to share Filipino music, dance, and culture with our community.

Thank you WDM Yorkton for sharing the beautiful photos taken by Brady Lang.

Maraming salamat! β€οΈπŸ‡΅πŸ‡πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦
