Please join us Thursday October 8 at7pm for the launch of Marie Wilson’s North of Nowhere in French. We will have a moderated discussion and refreshments.

Have you ever wanted to try your hand at poetry and just not know where to start? Have you written poetry in the past, but haven't picked up a pen in ages? Do you love writing poetry, but need a little extra inspiration? Well, do we have the perfect event for you!

On October 17th, from 2:00 - 3:30 PM, NorthWords NWT is hosting a poetry workshop called 'How to Write a Poem for People Who Don't Know How to Write Poetry' led by the tallented Robyn Scott! This event is happening at the Yellowknife Public Library Meeting Room right before our Annual General Meeting.

Use this to inspire a piece of writing for the month! Whether you are just writing for yourself, you share it online (make sure to tag ), or even bring it to our next Gather event, we can’t wait for you to dig in and get the creative juices flowing.

NorthWords NWT Is Looking for New Board Members

Do you believe in the power of stories? Are you passionate about supporting writers, readers, and literary arts in the Northwest Territories?

NorthWords NWT is seeking enthusiastic community members to join our volunteer Board of Directors at our Annual General Meeting on 17 October 2026 (meeting time and location to be announced).

As a board member, you'll help guide the organization's governance and strategic direction while supporting initiatives such as the annual NorthWords NWT Writers Festival, community programming, and opportunities that celebrate Northern voices. The board typically meets once a month on a Thursday evening, with additional involvement around events as members are available.

We welcome people with a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Whether you're a reader, writer, educator, bookseller, librarian, arts supporter, or simply someone who believes literature helps build stronger communities, we'd love to hear from you.

We are especially looking for someone interested in serving as Treasurer. If you have experience with bookkeeping, accounting, finance, or non-profit financial oversight, we'd be grateful to speak with you. That said, financial experience is not required to join the board, Directors with other skills and perspectives are equally welcome.

NorthWords is committed to representing communities across the Northwest Territories, and we encourage applications from residents throughout the territory. Virtual participation is available for board members outside Yellowknife.
