Let's talk about what is happening in your brain when rage shows up because I think once you understand the science of it, it changes everything about how you relate to it!
Your amygdala, which is basically your brain's threat detection system, fires SO fast that it overrides your prefrontal cortex before you even consciously register what's happening. Your prefrontal cortex is the part responsible for rational thinking and decision-making and impulse control, and it just goes completely offline.
Then, when frustration and stress and anger have been building up over time, your threshold drops so significantly that a tiny inconvenience on a hard day doesn't feel like a tiny inconvenience but a VOLCANIC one because it's landing on top of everything else that never got to move through!
Now here's the part that I think is really important to talk about because you may have heard that smash rooms or rage rooms are therapeutic, and the research is actually more complicated than that! I've learned that unstructured venting, like just punching things or screaming without any intention behind it, can actually rehearse anger rather than release it because you're building an association between the feeling and aggression.
BUT that is NOT what The Rage Workshop is!
The Rage Workshop has two parts that really make it different: breaking WITH intention and then creating something new from the broken pieces. That combination is somatic expression followed by integration, and the science actually supports THAT approach!
Your rage isn't a character flaw. It's your nervous system carrying something that never had anywhere to go! More details coming very soon.
