We had the absolute pleasure of working with these young people today at the Yarmouth high school. They are members of the two bands who performed at a music showcase. They were, to a person, polite, helpful and very grateful for the small contribution we made to their event. Way to go guys, you rock

At The Music Room we lend pa equipment for a limited number of reasons. We will consider educational events and events which have a charitable component, such as fundraisers. Only events which do not have government or other funding or charge admission qualify. We do not loan equipment or instruments to working musicians who are being paid. This system is going to the high school tomorrow in support of some young people who have an opportunity to play for their peers. Young people still start bands and really struggle now to find places to play. Pa equipment is very expensive and new bands often don't have any. This system is good quality and has a replacement cost of about $6,000, well beyond what young people starting out can usually afford.

A big thank you to Linda and David McDonald who have donated a snare drum, stand and case and a trumpet. This is a good opportunity to remind everyone that we have a variety of band instruments available to borrow as well as complete sets of drums and other percussion instruments.

At The Music Room we do musical education events as well as loan instruments. Pictured are just some of the 20 instruments we'll be taking to Universite Sainte Anne later today where we'll be meeting with the clients of Inclusion Clare. This is a hands on musical experience where the participants can try any or all of the instruments on display. The same program will be available to the general public later this summer at the Yarmouth library.

Depending on interest, The Music Room may sponsor an introduction to ukulele course this summer. The course would be free, for adults and probably consist of about 10 classes. The classes would take place during the day and be one hour each. Exact dates and location to be determined. The aim of the course is to give beginners the skills and tools to continue learning on their own after the course. Those taking part should have or be willing to buy a ukulele. The Music Room can provide some loaners but we can't guarantee there will be enough available at that time for everyone. If you plan to buy a ukulele please let us advise you first on what is an appropriate choice. One of the advantages of choosing ukulele is the cost of owning one is quite reasonable. For more information, message us or call (902) 881-2354. Please don't comment on this post and expect a reply.

Another day, another great donation to tell you about. This acoustic guitar was donated by Jeremy Musie and we sincerely thank him for the gift. It just needs a couple of minor adjustments and it will be ready to go. All of the instruments we're given are repaired and maintained by our volunteers. They all find their way back into the community through one or another of several programs we run. If you have questions about the many ways we promote music and musical edcation, please reach out to us. To borrow or donate an instrument, message us or call (902) 881-2354.

Another great donation to report on today. First a yamaha fg700s acoustic. This guitar gets rave reviews all around and is thought to be one of the best entry level guitars of all time. It has a solid top and plays like a dream. Included also was a no name 3/4 sized acoustic. It works very well and we're always glad to have another smaller sized guitar to lend. A big thank you to Dorothy Ward who made this very generous donation. To borrow or donate a guitar, message us or call (902) 881-2354.

A really interesting donation to tell you about today. First, 2 traditional, 6 hole flutes. If you've ever wanted to play the flute this may be the way to start. The sound is almost identical but these flutes are more user friendly and easier to play. The donation also contained several music stands. Finally, a unique and quite rare Hohner 4 key tremelo harmonica. At The Music Room we love quirky and unusual instruments so this one fits right in. If you already play harmonica and want to try something different this might interest you. A big Music Room thank you to Anson d'Entremont for this very cool donation. To borrow or donate an instrument, message us or call (902) 881-2354.
