Today we want to talk about our piano/keyboard department. First some definitions might be helpful. A keyboard typically has 61 unweighted keys and will mimic any number of other instruments as well as sound like a piano. An electric piano has 88 weighted keys and far fewer other sounds. We will lend a keyboard to anyone who wants to try one. The pianos we reserve for families who are putting a child in lessons with an established, trained, local teacher. We have a lot of both keyboards and pianos on hand at the moment, as you can see from the pictures below. That will change drastically in the coming month, as lessons start. If you are considering lessons for a child and would find the cost of a piano hard to manage or if you are unsure your child will stick with lessons we want to help. We can lend you a piano so you can assess your child's level of comittment before buying your own. If you've always wanted to try a keyboard on your own, we can help with that too. Two great donations to tell you about today. First, a big thank you to Greg Porter who donated this Washburn 3/4 sized acoustic guitar. The guitar and case are in perfect condition. We are always in need of smaller guitars, so it will be put to good use shortly. Also, a big thank you to Steve Churchill who made a much needed donation: a set of electronic drums. We have lots of acoustic drums and this will be our 4th electronic set. The E drums are often all out on loan so this will go a long way towards meeting the demand. Thanks again Greg and Steve. MUSIC LESSONS
September is the traditional start month for music lessons. If you're considering lessons, we can lend you an instrument to help you begin your musical journey. You can assess your interest level and progress before deciding whether to buy one of your own. We have electric pianos, drums, guitars, ukuleles and violins available. Guitar, bass and ukulele lessons are offered at The Music Room studio but there is no obligation to take lessons here. Just a reminder that our event at the Yarmouth library is happening tomorrow. There will be 20 instruments on display and all are available to try. A digital drum set, guitars, violin, banjo, xylophone and a few horns are just some of instruments which will be there. This event is open to all people of all ages. It's also free of charge. Hope to see at the library tomorrow.

Today we'd like to talk about our keyboard department. This is our latest acquistion. It's a full sized Yamaha electric piano with weighted keys. We have fifteen of these and they are reserved for families who are putting a child in piano lessons. They can assess their child's progress and interest level before buying a piano of their own. We also have lots of keyboards. Keyboards typically have 61 unweighted keys and many presets which make them sound like various horns and strings etc. Keyboards are available to anyone who would like to borrow one. We're taking a break from processing new loans for the next ten days. We are available for returns on existing loans. If you want to drop off an instrument that you borrowed just let us know when you'll be coming and we'll be here. Open again for our full range of services Monday August 17th.

Join us Aug. 13 from 2-4 pm in the multi purpose room at the Yarmouth library. We'll have 20 different musical instruments on display for people to try. They'll also be available to borrow from The Music Room. All are welcome, hope to see you there.

We have a lovely acoustic piano looking for a new home. It's in good condition and available free of charge. New owner would be responsible for moving it. If you're interested, message us or call (902) 881-2354 and we'll put you in contact with the current owner.

We are very excited to introduce our latest award of excellence winner, Eryn Murphy. Eryn is a student at UPEI where she is studying psychology. She began playing guitar at a young age and is now an accomplished player. We've been hanging on to the special guitar she was awarded for more than a year, waiting for just the right person to receive it. It is a vintage Pan acoustic and an unauthorized copy of a Gibson hummingbird. The term lawsuit guitar is often misused. This guitar is actually one of the so called lawsuit guitars. It was made in Japan in the late sixties. Everything about this guitar says quality. It plays and sounds amazing. Congratulations Eryn.
