2025 Gros Morne Hiking Festival closing ceremonies.

After wrapping up our Green Gardens hike, everyone got cleaned up and gathered at the Woody Point Lighthouse for one of the most memorable parts of the week, the traditional Newfoundland screech-in. We are proud to say we now have a fresh batch of honorary Newfoundlanders!

From there, we made our way down to the Merchant Warehouse Retro Cafe & Wine Bar always one of the most popular spots in Woody Point. The place was full of energy as everyone enjoyed fish and chips, burgers, cod bites, all sorts of appies and ice-cold craft beer while swapping stories from the week.

The laughter and stories from the trails made for such a fantastic ending to the week. Huge thanks to Stan, Jenny, Kendra and the entire Merchant team. They have been incredible supporters of the Gros Morne Hiking Festival right from our first year, so we love to spend our final festival night right there with them.

The Merchant Warehouse is also the perfect setting for handing out awards for our hiking festival challenges: the 3 Peaks Challenge, Long Distance Award, and the Photo Contest. Festival hats, hiking swag, and beautiful 3 Peaks badges were handed out while celebrating all the hikers and trip leaders who made this week so special.

What an incredible week of hiking, exploring, great food, and celebration. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 2025 Gros Morne Hiking Festival, and we cannot wait to do it all again this year!!

Our final hike of the 2025 Gros Morne Hiking Festival brought us to Old Manā€™s Cove, now referred to as Green Gardens since the park shocked everyone and closed the longer, more scenic proper Green Gardens/ Wallace Brook route unexpectedly.

After a week of non-stop hiking, this shorter easy final trek was a welcome change of pace. The whole group set out together, enjoying the steady descent before spreading out naturally, everyone taking it in at their own rhythm.

And thenā€¦ the coastline. Wide open views over the Gulf, dramatic cliffs, rolling green meadows, and the famous pillow lava formations scattered along the shore. The beach itself is something special, even when trying to dodge the mounds & mounds of sheep p**p šŸ˜‚ šŸ’©

Some hikers lingered a little longer to soak it all in, while others made their way back at a relaxed pace but one thing was the same across the board: it was a fantastic way to close out the hiking portion of the festival.

Now we shift gears and get ready for the closing ceremony tonight, time to celebrate an amazing week of trails, views, and great company. šŸŽ‰

After we conquered Gros Morne Mountain, and what a day it was, we got cleaned up and made our way to one of the highlights, dinner in the Blue Ocean Dining Room at the Bonne Bay Inn.

If youā€™ve ever visited "the inn", as it's known locally, you already experienced how Darlene makes you feel like family the moment you walk through the door. Her warmth and hospitality sets the standard, and her amazing team delivers that same welcoming experience every time. And the setting? Absolutely breathtaking. Panoramic windows frame a stunning view of Bonne Bay, Gros Morne Mountain, and Woody Point, it's the kind of place where you find yourself pausing between bites just to take it all in.

The meal itself was amazing as always, Panko-crusted local cod, fresh roasted vegetables, The BEST linguine I've ever had (seriously!) and savoury berry crumble to top it all off. Every bite was just as memorable as the view.

If youā€™re in the area and looking for a cozy spot to wind down after dinner, the Elements Pub in the inn is a must. With its beautiful handcrafted woodwork and classic speakeasy feel, itā€™s the perfect place for a relaxed nightcap, even if youā€™re not staying at the inn. It's the perfect way to end a big day, and fuel up for another great hike ahead!

And a huge congratulations to everyone who completed the last hike of the 3 Peak Festival Challenge today. The Tablelands, the Lookout, and Gros Morne Mountain. What an achievement! šŸŽ‰

Today at the Hiking Festival was a very special day as we visited "his mansion in the sky,ā€ Gros Morne Mountain, the highest peak in Gros Morne National Park.

After our safety talk in the parking lot, we set off together as a full group of excited hikers, taking our time along the base trail before reaching the foot of the mountain. We paused for a break before the climb, where everyone made their own call on whether to continue. Some stayed back to relax and take in the views, while the rest of us pushed on toward the summit.

The climb up the scree slope, as always, was a real test. About halfway up, you hit that wall where pacing yourself really matters. Everyone did a great job managing their effort, watching their heart rate and taking breaks when needed. It was windy at the summit, so we tucked into the rock shelters for a quick break while people grabbed photos by the sign, such a proud moment and always a highlight to watch.

As we made our way down toward the 10 Mile Pond lookout, the wind eased and the temperature became perfect for hiking. Thatā€™s where we stopped for lunch, resting, refueling, laying back, and soaking in some incredible views.

From there, we descended through Ferry Gulch, taking in the rugged terrain before splitting into two groups, with some choosing an alternate return trail to experience even more of the mountainā€™s hidden beauty.

All in all, it was a great day with ideal weather, strong effort from everyone, and plenty of proud summit moments, including the hikers who completed the final mountain of the 3 PEAK CHALLENGE. Congratulations!! šŸŽ‰ What an amazing accomplishment and one to remember.

Hikers Dinner at the Old Loft Restaurant šŸŖ¢

After our hike across the Tablelands, we regrouped and made our way to the Old Loft Restaurant in Woody Point. It didnā€™t take long before our group packed the house. Boots replaced with comfy shoes, faces warmed, and everyone settling in after a long day in the fog and rain.

Thereā€™s something special about the Old Loft. They specialize in hearty, home-cooked Newfoundland meals, and that was exactly what we were craving. Walking into the warmth of the old fishermanā€™s loft, with its cozy wooden benches and welcoming atmosphere, felt like a reward in itself.

We were greeted so kindly by Clarice and the entire staff. The service is always so genuinely warm, making the whole experience even better. And the food, absolutely fantastic. Fish and chips, rich chowders, soups, fresh scones, blueberry pie, and a variety of salads. Every bite felt comforting and satisfying after a long day outdoors.

It wasnā€™t just a meal, it was the perfect ending to a rugged, beautiful day hiking the Tablelands and conquering our second peak or the 3 Peaks Challenge.
