From the Vault

Rudolf Bikker’s final serigraph in his Shostakovich Portfolio series is Finale – Piano Quintet in G Minor, Opus, 57.

In likeness to the other parts of this series, this work illustrates part of a piano composition by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich. Created with cool blues, purples and black this work combines abstract shapes and overlapping lines.

Natural Connections: Student Printmaking Exhibition with Ron Milton, on display in the Community Gallery, is closing soon on June 20, 2026.

The WAG’s 2026 March Break Art Camp student’s artwork, and a selection of pieces by Master Printmaker Ron Milton are included in the exhibition, alongside images of the young artists at work in the printmaking studio.

March Break Art Camp provided registrants with a dynamic and inspiring week of creativity, exploration, and collaboration. Rooted in the theme of nature and the permanent collection exhibition Great Small Things: 60 Years of Collecting, the camp offered students the opportunity to immerse themselves in hands-on art projects with Ron Milton.

The students left with a lasting appreciation for both nature and printmaking. As students reflected on their week, they shared their artistic growth with Ron’s mentorship and the new friendships they formed, revealing the incredible power of art as a bridge for meaningful connections.

Public art in Woodstock: BIRD SET FREE is on display in the WAG’s lobby gallery until June 20, 2026.

Visit this display before it closes to get a behind-the-scenes look of the process of creating Woodstock’s newest public artwork.

In November 2025, BIRD SET FREE, by Duane and Urszula Kumala-Thomas, was installed in the Bruce Flowers Sculpture Garden. This new public art project was the result of a Legacy Grant from the Government of Canada and commemorates the 100th anniversary of the death of Woodstock artist Florence Carlyle.

During your visit, pick up a copy of WAG’s new Public Art Brochure which provides the community with the means to successfully connect with the City’s public art. The brochure offers quick insights into each public artwork in Woodstock and includes a map of the locations. Copies are available at the Gallery.

ᑕᐅᑐᑉᐹ Tautuppaa | Long Looking: Tim Pitsiulak closes on June 20, 2026.

Don’t miss the opportunity to see this unique collection of works by Inuit artist Tim Pitsiulak. The exhibition is curated by Taqralik Partridge and organized by the Art Gallery of Guelph with the generous support of lenders and the Department of Canadian Heritage.

ᑕᐅᑐᑉᐹ Tautuppaa | Long Looking: Tim Pitsiulak highlights the distinct way of seeing that underpins Pitsiulak's work – perception honed on the land as both a hunter and an artist. For Pitsiulak, these pursuits were intricately intertwined, both stemming from his practice of "long looking." In Inuktitut, tautuppaa means to see or to look for a long time. Pitsiulak’s unique style, and attention to detail and texture, offers much to be discovered through our own long looking.
