🌎As the world struggles to renew its beauty amid global duress, and UNIT have organized a day-long gathering for Filipino Canadian theatre workers and artists - a space to pause, reflect on our conditions and share what and how we’re making today.
It’s a symposium called: Where We Are / Kung Saan Tayo Lulugar: Filipino Canadian Theatre in Winnipeg – Migration, Changing Climates, and History
🗓️March 15
⏰9:30 AM to 8:00 PM,
📍Asper Theatre and Film Centre (UofW)
We aim to generate conversations around ‘n about:
What space exists for Filipino Canadian theatre and performance within Canada’s cultural institutions?
How do we frame our stories in relation to the capitalist and colonial system?
What are the ethical practices we can consider within colonial Canada and how do we make theatre that isn’t extractive?
By engaging these questions together, we hope to gather Filipino Canadian theatre workers and artists, performance makers, and live event storytellers in Winnipeg who are interested in unpacking themes of migration and diaspora, changing climates, and the histories of Filipino theatre - both here in Winnipeg and in the homeland.
The symposium will be a casual and welcoming space to connect, reflect and exchange ideas, while centering the lived experiences and insights from local and diasporic theatre, performance, and live arts workers.
If you are interested in attending, please register (🔗in bio), no later than March 13 🗓️
The symposium will be catered, note any food restrictions in the registration portal. ⚡️Spots are limited and will be filled in the order registrations are received (20 spots). Unlimited spots will be available on Zoom, a link will be provided closer to the day.
We hope you can join us!
