⛪ Building the Kingdom One Step at a Time ⛪
Yesterday, I was on the bus heading out to talk about filmmaking and continue my mission of helping build a faith-based film community here in Winnipeg.
I just wanted to share a little bit of my humble beginnings.
I don't usually spend much time online. To be honest, I try to stay away from social media most of the time because there can be a lot of negativity. Every once in a while, I'll hop on to check in, connect with people, or see what's happening, but I prefer spending my time building, learning, creating, and serving.
Yesterday, I had no bus fare, but I asked kindly, and they let me on. Growing up in Winnipeg's inner city taught me how to be resourceful and keep moving forward no matter what challenges come my way.
As I sat on the bus, I found myself reflecting on how faithful God has been. I am currently living on EIA while I continue a season of healing, growth, and rebuilding my life.
Growing up in Winnipeg's inner city, I was surrounded by many challenges, including addiction, alcohol, poverty, and difficult circumstances. Today, I am on a completely different journey. The Lord has been teaching me a new way of living, helping me grow in sobriety, faith, wisdom, and purpose.
While the journey has not always been easy, I am grateful for the transformation that God is doing in my life. I am learning new habits, new ways of thinking, and a new lifestyle rooted in Christ. It is amazing to look back and see how far the Lord has brought me.
I am thankful for His continual provision. He provided me with my little apartment, He provides opportunities, He provides people along the journey, and He always seems to make a way when there doesn't appear to be one.
One scripture that has encouraged me throughout this season is Romans 12:2:
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."
I truly believe the Lord is renewing my mind through His Word and teaching me how to walk in the new life He has prepared for me. Every day is another opportunity to learn, grow, heal, and become more like Christ.
Later that evening, I went online and saw some of the faith-based projects and creative work that are beginning to take shape. It was encouraging because over the past while I have shared resources, training materials, educational tools, and ideas with churches, ministries, and creatives in hopes of helping build a stronger faith-based creative community.
The Lord often builds His Kingdom through humble beginnings, and I think it is important that no matter where God takes us in life, we never forget where we came from. We should never allow success, recognition, resources, or even our struggles to distract us from what truly matters.
Our focus should always remain on the Lord, glorifying Him, serving others, and helping build up His Church. At the end of the day, it is not about us, it is about being faithful stewards of what God has entrusted to us and using our gifts to advance His Kingdom.
My dream is to see filmmakers, photographers, storytellers, churches, and creatives working together to create films and projects that glorify the Lord, strengthen the Church, and positively impact our communities.
Seeing some of those seeds beginning to grow has been a blessing. It reminded me that even small acts of obedience can have an impact and that God can multiply what we place in His hands.
So here's a little glimpse of me yesterday, riding the bus, talking about film, trusting God, and continuing the mission He has placed on my heart.
No matter where this journey leads, I pray I never forget my humble beginnings, that I remain focused on the Lord, and that everything I do points back to Him and helps build His Church.
It is also encouraging to see what feels like an answered prayer beginning to come to pass. For the past seven years, I have been consistently praying and interceding for Winnipeg, asking the Lord to bring healing, restoration, and breakthrough to our city.
Through prayer, I have been believing the Lord to help our communities overcome challenges and to raise up people who will walk in faith, purpose, and perseverance. And now recently, during prayer, I felt the words "City of Champions" strongly in my spirit. When I look around online and I see it coming to pass. My prayers were that Winnipeg will continue to grow as a city of overcomers who glorify the Lord and encourage one another. 🙏✨. 🏙️🏆🫢⛪✝️🥰🫶🏾
To my neighbourhood, the North End:
One thing the Lord has been teaching me is not to let our circumstances overcome us. Whether we are walking, taking the bus, facing challenges, struggling financially, or starting with very little, the Lord can still use us. What matters is that we remain faithful, obedient, and willing to serve where He has placed us.
I am grateful for every step of the journey and excited to see what the Lord does next. 🎬✨🙏
