This weekend we held the Felix Beardy Memorial 8-Ball Championships. There were a total of 60 players across 2 separate divisions that came out to compete. The competition was strong, the battles were fierce, but the best part was seeing everyone play the game that Felix loved. The A-Division championship came down to Jason Klatt and Cornell Cornell K Jr. Mclean. If you got to see the match live on stream, you were treated to another Manitoba classic. It was a match filled with amazing play and drama as the match went hill-hill, with Jason Klatt winning in dramatic fashion with a break and run. The B-Division saw a matchup of Darcy Michael and Vinz Valdez . Vince came back from the B-side to face Darcy and ended up winning the first set. Both players eventually decided to split 1st place. Congratulations go out to the other winners that placed in the money. The players and payouts for each division will be listed below.
A special thank you goes out to Madeline Beardy and her family. They raised the $5,000 added money on their own through MANY fundraisers prior to the event. She was even able to raise money to give everyone commemorative t-shirts with Felix on the front. We, the pool community, appreciate everything you have done. Felix was a big part of the pool family here and everywhere he went. The event allowed us to honor his legacy through the game he loved to play, and all of the stories shared this weekend made it feel like he was here with us.
We here at Crazy 8 Billiards and Lounge would also like to thank a few people. To our staff, thank you for all of your hard work. It was a busy weekend, and you all did an amazing job. Rylee, our tournament director, did an amazing job running not 1, but 2 divisions and kept the tournament flowing. Jax helped out to ensure the stream and live scoring were up to date and was also our runner to ensure players knew when and where their matches were being played. Last but not least, thank you to all the players that came out to play. Without you, there is no event.
Felix Beardy was one of the most feared pool players in Manitoba. He played with such grace and always played with great dignity, earning the players' respect everywhere he went. He was a mentor to many pool players here in Manitoba, and many of them went on to be great players themselves. Most importantly, though, he was an amazing man who loved his family, loved the game of pool, and loved everyone in it. The tables haven't been the same since he left, but his legacy will always be remembered. Hope you enjoyed the show, Felix. We miss you!
