One Trunk Theatre

One Trunk Theatre We create theatre. Hamlet: as Told on the Streets (Winnipeg Jewish Theatre's Tribefest and Just One Spark (Bailey Theatre, Camrose).

Company History
Since its inception in 2009, One Trunk Theatre, led by artistic producers Christine Birch (Toronto) and Andraea Sartison (Winnipeg), has produced five independent shows. Puberty: A Memoir (Winnipeg Fringe 2010), The Bride (aceartinc’s 16 days of non-organised art) and The Big Gravel Sifter (Manitoba Theatre Centre’s Strindberg Fest). It is a shape shifting company with productions

run by one of the artistic directors in either Toronto or Winnipeg, or collaboratively. Over the past year One Trunk has employed guest artists from all across the country in different disciplines come together to create new devised theatre and collective creations. This has included professional ballerinas, composers, hip-hop artists and videographers. The focus of the collective is on producing new work and creating opportunities for interdisciplinary creation. In 2011 One Trunk also began to run workshops and promote shows for other artists. For example, in March, One Trunk hosted Paul “Sparky” Johnson’s Back to Borneo tour at the Manitoba Theatre for Young People and coordinated a sold out workshop. While fostering the young company the artistic team strive to constantly experiment and incorporate new artists, new stories and new ideas. Performance, art, life, knowledge should constantly grow, constantly improve and constantly challenge us. When we acknowledge one another as humans and artists, when we create together, and when we hear one another we become better creators and people.

The Martian and the Mound written by Andraea Sartison, with contributions from the citizens of Southern Manitoba

The Martian and The Mound is a time-bending, prairie-rooted theatrical romp that follows Dr. Phoenix Albright, an archaeologist from Mars, as they investigate a mysterious “pull” beneath a Manitoba mound.

Guided by ghosts, memories, and extinct animals, Albright travels through pivotal moments in the region’s past—from the tallgrass prairie to the future’s last sunset. This play blends myth, memory, and local voices, asking: in the eyes of history, what makes a moment worth remembering?
