We wanted to share this great accessibility workshop series that's coming up from our friend Access With Drea. Share this with someone who might be interested!

Build Access into Your Art Practice | Thursday, September 10th 6 - 9 pm EST | Zoom

An introduction to making accessible events and performances. It is designed for artists, producers, creators and anyone interested in offering public events. This workshop offers a great starting point for anyone beginning their journey of accessibility or have specific questions about how to practically plan to make their events more accessible.

Working With Audio Describers | Tuesday, September 29th 6 – 9 pm EST | Zoom

Specifically for Blind and Low-vision community members who are interested in being a consultant for live performance. This workshop will support participants in learning the skills required of Blind consultants and how they work with Audio Describers. This workshop while designed for the active participation for Blind and low-vision community members, those curious to learn more about Audio Description are also welcome to observe this workshop.

Are you a high school student considering your future, a skilled tradesperson interested in applying your expertise to the theatre environment, a newcomer with backstage experience from another country, or someone simply looking for a new and rewarding career path?

On behalf of the Winnipeg theatre and live performing arts community, Prairie Theatre Exchange and Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre are hosting a Backstage Theatre Career Discovery Day on September 19. We would love for you to attend! This event is designed to show that there are many ways to find your role backstage.

Backstage Theatre Career Discovery Day is a free, full-day event for people interested in applying their existing skills in a new setting, exploring backstage work as a career or returning to the industry. We’re Looking for New Leadership

Our founder, Debbie Patterson, is preparing to step away as our Artistic Director. Her departure is designed to make room for a new leader. We are not framing this as a search for an Artistic Director, Managing Director, or an Executive Director specifically, but as a search for new leadership.
We are less focused on highlighting potential titles, than in finding the right person/team as a strong fit with our mission.

We are open to either one person or a team. We would be satisfied to see one person with all the qualities, skills, expertise and lived experience we are seeking, but we also know that we may see a duo, who combined, have all those attributes or the capacity to develop them.

Sick + Twisted is a Winnipeg based theatre company and registered non-profit charity dedicated to creating work exploring the experience of living with a disability. We don’t create theatre for disabled people; we create theatre for everybody. We believe that there are deep universal truths of the human condition hidden behind the veil of disability. We believe our bodies tell the truth, and when we listen clearly and with curiosity, we can create work that reveals an audience to itself.

Please welcome, Sierra Noble! The newest member of the S+T family and our new Development, Outreach and Communications Coordinator! Well, kind of new, they started in October but have been too shy to put their face on our socials ☺️

Sierra Noble (they/she) is a q***r, dynamically disabled, neurodivergent musician, songwriter, music producer, and student.

They are passionate about the arts and contributing toward making artistic industries more accessible and supportive for disabled artists and art lovers alike.

While new to the theatre world, they are excited to use their 20+ years of experience in the arts to expand the profile, outreach, and impact of the company, as well as of disabled artists and their work!

Mark your calendars, choristers! Here are the upcoming Sick+Twisted Community Choir gathering dates:

May 16th, 23rd, and 30th
June 6th, and 13th

All practices are from 4:00pm til 6:00pm at Inclusion Winnipeg (120 Maryland Street)

After June 13th we will be taking a choir break and returning on September 12th!

The Wheelchair Workshop: Unblocking The Director
May 29th, 11:00am - 6:00pm, at Prairie Theatre Exchange

We are inviting Winnipeg theatre directors to participate in a free shared learning opportunity focused on working with
wheelchair-enabled actors on stage.

The workshop will be facilitated by Director Theresa Thomson and will include 2 chair-enabled actors and two bi-ped actors.

Topics explored will include:

General Stage Direction
Wheelchairs 101
Safety
Stage fighting
Spacial Relations
Intimacy

Space is limited to 12 directors (6 spots remaining at the time of this post!)
