Shael bio:
Argentinian-born and Canadian-raised Shael is a Winnipeg-based DJ and event promoter with a dedicated passion for house music. Shael's first ever gig was for Symptom Tech at Lost In Bass in November of 2002. She was immediately welcomed as a regular Symptom Tech performer and soon became a local favourite and in-demand DJ. A veteran in the underground scene for over two decades, she has brought her distinct style of house music across Canada to clubs, festivals, and community projects, with recent appearances at Bass Coast Festival and Re:Union Festival in BC, and club events in Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver. She’s also been featured on record label podcasts and radio shows globally, most recently with vinyl-only mixes for Aterral in Berlin and Selections Label in Toronto.
Her DJ sets capture the essence of her Latin roots and love for the underground, with fluid, mood-driven selections drawing influence from 90’s and early 00’s house. She seamlessly moves through deep, emotional house, disco-leaning grooves, and bompin’ cuts, with touches of breakbeats and garage, built from years of digging and living the dancefloor. Always tuned to the room or setting, her selections are shaped by experience, care, and community.
Shael currently co-promotes with Proper YWG curating intimate underground music events, and holds a 15-year residency with Winnipeg’s MEME festival. Both these collaborative projects aim to showcase proper underground music and inspire today’s generation of DJs and electronic music fans, using shared history in the scene while continuing to honor the roots of the music’s origin. Shael joins Nathan Zahn and Jay Tripwire playing all vinyl sets for SYMPTOM ### on September 19th at The Albert!
