Founded in 2005, the WNDX Festival programs new and innovative moving image works from across Canada and around the globe, with a mandate to showcase films made in our immediate community.

INTRO TO 16 MM EXPERIMENTAL FILMMAKING for BIPOC & 2SLGBTQIA filmmakers & creators / Aug 22 & 23

This two-day Intro to 16 mm Experimental Filmmaking workshop will provide participants wth an introduction to shooting B&W16 mm film with a Bolex camera and hand-processing the shot film in a darkroom using eco-processing approaches.

This workshop is made possible with the support of PLATFORM Centre for Photographic + Digital Arts, alongside the ongoing funding of the Canada Council for the Arts, the Winnipeg Foundation, the Manitoba Arts Council and the Winnipeg Arts Council.

Camera tests in prep for the WNDX One Take Super-8 Event, Manitoba’s most effective film production incubator. Past films made for the WNDX event have gone on to be selected for TIFF, Hot Docs, Rotterdam, Slamdance, ImagineNative and the Not Short on Talent showcase at Cannes, among countless other festivals around the world. These Tri-X tests were hand-processed to negative with caffenol in PLATFORM’s darkrooms. 🎞️

🌟Winnipeg’s favourite film production incubator returns in 2026 with a surprise appearance by Sunny Sidhu, whose fantastic 2010 super-8 film “Singh” was featured in our 20x25 One Take Retrospective. At the time, program curator Alex Rogalski had been informed that Sunny had passed away and passed the sad news on to the crowd. This was shocking news to all, but nobody was more surprised than Sunny himself. Months later, we sent Sunny some film and one of Jaimz + Karen Asmundson’s trusty cameras, and are thrilled to report he’s our first announced participant of this year’s One Take Super-8 Event!

The One Take general application window opens Monday June 1 for Manitoba filmmakers who want to join in this legendary program. Past films created for the One Take Super-8 Event have gone on to screen at TIFF, Hot Docs, Rotterdam, Slamdance, Images, ImagineNative, Antimatter, and the Not Short on Talent Canadian Showcase at Cannes, among countless others.

🌟SAVE THE DATE: The WNDX One Take Super-8 Event application window is June 1-7, 2026. This legendary program is Manitoba’s longest running production incubator, going over two decades strong. The program is open to Manitoba residents. Stay tuned for more information coming soon!
