Гурт було засновано у 2022 році. Chornozem, literally black soil, is found in two places in the world: the Steppe of Eastern Europe and the Prairies of Turtle Island. Through the earth and soil, we as a people connect. We connect to the cycles of nature, of agriculture and to all of the songs and rituals that revolve around them. We connect to our ancestors of blood and of place, that rest in the richness of the chornozem. This Kolektyv invites all peoples, no matter their ancestry, to connect with the land and the ways of their ancestors, including through song, dance, craft, food, and agricultural practices. The group was established in 2022.
