Just off the lathe a medium sized “ring” bowl! This stunning piece of ambrosia maple is 7” wide 3” deep. (Ambrosia maple is not a distinct species. It describes a highly sought-after, character-rich figure found in soft maple (such as red or silver maple). The unique streaks and "wormholes" are caused by the ambrosia beetle boring into the tree and introducing a cosmetic fungus.) Would you like this on your bedstand to place your jewelry in at night?

7 1/4” wide 2 1/2” deep this combination of wood, antler and resin bowl created a number of challenges. The pieces are off-cuts from other projects that were saved and molded into a rough shaped bowl. That was the easiest part. Cutting the bowl with various materials, hardness, and grain direction trying to get a smooth finish tested me. Finished with several coats of food safe wax.
