Toronto indie-rock darlings ZEUS are back! Known for their irresistible blend of vintage rockl, psychedelic flourishes, soaring harmonies, and ridiculously catchy power-pop hooks, Zeus have spent more than 15 years carving out a sound that’s equal parts The Beatles, Big Star, The Band, and classic ‘70s guitar rock. Emerging from Toronto’s fertile indie scene and the musical orbit of Jason Collett and Bahamas, the four-piece have earned a reputation for their inventive songwriting, infectious energy, and seriously impressive musicianship.

Super-fresh (like six days fresh) off the release of their brand-new album, Lost & Found (The Say Us Archives), Zeus are hitting the road with a collection of rediscovered gems from the sessions surrounding their acclaimed 2010 debut, Say Us. It’s a fascinating trip back to the band’s beginnings, bringing long-forgotten songs to life alongside favourites from Busting Visions, Classic Zeus, and Credo. And where better to kick off the tour than right here?

Some horror movies make you jump.. others make you wonder if something terrible has been lurking silently around you all along.

This Wednesday at Meteor Uniplex, we're screening Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Cure (1997), a hypnotic, deeply unsettling Japanese psychological thriller about a detective investigating a series of inexplicable murders, each committed by a different person with no apparent motive.

Halfway between a police procedural and a friggin existential nightmare, Cure is a slow-burning masterpiece that trades cheap jump scares for a creeping sense of dread that will hide in the shadows and follow you all the way home.

Okay, so perhaps Scary Movie was a little mid. But this Wednesday, we're bringing things back to a bona fide spooky-season classic with Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street!

Freddy Krueger.. That razor sharp glove and iconic sweater.. and a baby-faced Johnny Depp learning the hard way that maybe falling asleep isn't such a great idea. Nearly forty years later, Nightmare is still funny, nasty, clever, creepy, and packed with amazing practical effects that deserve to be seen on a nice, big screen.

Los Angeles’ Dark Dazey bring their self-described “frog rock” to Meteor — hazy psychedelic swampscapes, country-fried garage rock and playful weirdness that lands somewhere between Ween, Mac DeMarco and Vi**ra Boys. Think the Grateful Dead dosed Jimmy Buffett.

London’s Sunshine Makers round out the night with warm, harmony-soaked psychedelic soul and funk — lush grooves, vintage analog textures and a little ’70s West Coast sunshine.

I'm not exactly sure how, but we're somehow wrapping up a little Adam Sandler film festival here.

Tomorrow night.. Click! Our third Sandler vehicle in a month, though following Uncut Gems and Punch Drunk Love, this might be the first 'Sandler Movie' in the traditional sense. Whatever, we're just going to see where this takes us!

Surprise!

Apparently, our recent Adam Sandler fan vote, much like an impertinent AI, has escaped containment and is making our lives complicated. Uncut Gems was our winner, but Click somehow made it onto this month's schedule as well.. And now, a last-minute hole has opened up for this Wednesday, so this is us abusing our executive authority.

Full disclosure: I really can't stand Adam Sandler's movies.. and yet here he is, starring in one of my desert island picks.

This Wednesday we present PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE: Paul Thomas Anderson's deeply weird, core-clenchingly anxious, achingly beautiful romantic comedy, starring Sandler as a lonely novelty plunger salesman with seven sisters, some serious anger issues, and a mysterious little piano.

It's funny, uncomfortable, gorgeous, terrifying, and features what I think is Sandler's far and away best performance.

So: surprise. More Adam Sandler. But trust us on this one.

Our tribute to the late, great, and impossibly wonderful Tim Curry continues with the only movie brave enough to put him on a ship full of Muppets and to discover that, somehow, he's still the biggest freaking Muppet in the room.

Tim Curry throws absolutely everything into Long John Silver.. Singing, scheming, swashbuckling and chewing the scenery with such enthusiasm that it's difficult to imagine anyone else sharing the screen with him.

Pile began in the late 2000s as the solo project of Rick Maguire before growing into one of the most fiercely loved cult bands in American indie rock... eight albums of volatile, unpredictable songs, mangled guitars, sudden bursts of noise and Maguire’s unmistakable voice earning them the sort of devoted following that tends to turn casual listeners into evangelists.

Every once in a while, though, Rick strips it all back and heads out alone.

Tonight, we’re very excited to welcome Rick Maguire of Pile to Meteor for a rare solo performance, with Brainrust opening the night.

Tonight at Meteor: Dutch darkwave/post-punk project Bragolin joins forces with Madison, Wisconsin’s Carrellee for a night of dark, atmospheric synths, post-punk and dance-floor gloom. Bragolin’s melodic gothic sound has taken them to clubs and festivals around the world, with “Into Those Woods” becoming a modern darkwave staple, while Carrellee blends ethereal dream-pop, icy synths and dark electropop, drawing comparisons to Cocteau Twins and Kate Bush and sharing stages with IAMX, Drab Majesty, ACTORS and more.
