Roger Boyle Artist

Roger Boyle Artist When I paint, I always mix a little bit of what is with a little bit of what isn't. Watercolour painting was not my first choice. Nope, I had commerce in mind.

Apparently, I would draw images from my visual world onto Mom’s walls before setting a foot in school. I progressed to drawing cartoons in the margins of all my text books. Art was the only “A” on my report card. I eventually graduated from the Ontario College of Art majoring in Advertising and Graphic Design. A professor there suggested I should be a painter. I chose an exciting career in Toronto

’s Advertising Agencies which morphed into freelancing graphic design and a quarter century zipped by. I did not paint. While freelancing, I slid into teaching all things graphic at the College level. That grew to a twenty year gig during which I learned more about art than I did in all my previous life. Thank you, all my talented students, for what you taught me. Still, I did not pick up a brush. Retirement stopped regular pay cheques but it did not stop my mind. Images came fast and furious and I had to get them on paper. So, I studied watercolour skills and have toiled to perfect them and finally become a painter in watercolour.

The final result of a painting I started last Saturday during the Walkerville Art Walk. The five wires at the back of the parking lot must have been dinged hundreds of times to warrant being covered by brilliant yellow tubes. (Lincoln, just south of Wyandotte)

I set up at 11 Saturday morning at the Walkerville Art Walk with the main objective being shade. By 2:30 I packed it in. Got to talk to a few interested people. The parking lot was busy by the time I got at painting so I had to take a few walking excursions to see some details.
I figure I still need an hour to finish. Mainly windows and subduing the white trim. Fun, fun, fun.
