Amazing opportunity!

Are you interested in guiding the future of Gwaandak Theatre’s artistic programming? We are seeking a new Artistic Director to lead us into the 2027/28 season and beyond!

We are hoping to have the incoming Artistic Director work alongside the current AD for the 2026/27 Season and be part of the Season’s 2027 Awaken Festival and 2027 Indigenous Summer Play Readings.

Application Deadline: September 1st, 2026

Start Date: January 10th, 2027

Contract Term: January 10th 2027-June 30th 2027 (24 weeks) with option to renew on a permanent or multi-year contract starting July 1st, 2027

Place of Work: Whitehorse, Yukon Territory

Rate/Hours: $31.22 per hour (current Yukon living wage) / 30 hours per week

Benefits:
-Health benefits with dental
-2 Weeks Vacation (up to 4 weeks per year upon contract renewal)
-2% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) per year upon contract renewal

Artist Announcement!
Alex Hodgins

Join us Round Back Wednesday July 22 at 7pm at The Guild Hall

Originally hailing from Perth, Ontario, Alex Hodgins has been writing songs since he was a teenager, mostly on various slips of scrap paper that were inevitably scattered in the wind. In 2020, he started putting together some of those pieces, which would turn into his first full songs. In the quiet of the pandemic, sitting on the roof of his childhood home, he compiled a notebook full of songs that he still writes in today. After moving to Whitehorse, Yukon in the fall of 2020 and settling into life in the North, Alex has continued writing songs and is pursuing music both independently and with his band, The Screendoors. Alex's debut EP Your Town is out now!

Jacob Zimmer

Jacob Zimmer is a theatre maker, facilitator and dramaturge now living outside Whitehorse where he is Artistic Director of Pivot Theatre. In 20 years of co-creating, collaborating and producing performances and conferences, he is grateful to have worked with remarkable people in Canada and internationally. Born on Cape Breton Island, he has long been a fan of making up stories about sticks.

Kicking off week 2 of 'Round Back at the Guild Hall! Here's what's happening this week.

THURSDAY JULY 16: Lumber. Jack Bennet just got dumped, lost his job, reno-victed, and worst of all: his dog died. Hes got nothing left but a truck and his chainsaw. What does he do? He goes North - really far north to find a new purpose. All the way out of Alberta into the Yukon to start a wood harvest. Join him as he tells his story of finding community in unlikely places, and how that drew him closer to home and heritage in its own unique way. A new script in development.

FRIDAY JULY 17: Gwaandak Theatre's Indigenous Summer Play Readings: Ämbäya Shäw/Big Aunties (written by Christine Genier). A new script in development.

SATURDAY JULY 18: Ben Mahony playing both new and old songs. Both indie rock and brit pop influenced. Both acoustic and electric. Songs written in Whitehorse, Dawson City, Alberta and afar. And a quirky cover or three too.

Amber Berard-Althouse

Join us Round Back Wednesday July 22 at 7pm at The Guild Hall!

Amber Berard-Althouse is a Tlingit woman from Kluane First Nation and the founder of The Land Heals, a business rooted in healing, nature, and Yukon First Nations history and culture. She leads cultural walking tours, facilitates courses and workshops on Yukon First Nations History and offers workshops in interpretation (storytelling), yoga, medicinal plants, and land acknowledgments. Amber’s work empowers others through storytelling, connection to land, and community-based healing.

Trina Moyles

Trina Moyles is a Whitehorse-based author, journalist, and creative producer. She writes for Canadian Geographic, The Walrus, Yukon Magazine, and more. Her latest book *Black Bear: A Story of Siblinghood and Survival* was a national bestseller. She lives and writes in an off-grid yurt with her partner and their three rowdy dogs.
