Are you interested in guiding the future of Gwaandak Theatre’s artistic programming? We are seeking a new Artistic Director to lead us into the 2027/28 season and beyond!

We are hoping to have the incoming Artistic Director work alongside the current AD for the 2026/27 Season and be part of the Season’s 2027 Awaken Festival and 2027 Indigenous Summer Play Readings.

Application Deadline *Extended*: October 1st, 2026

Start Date: January 10th, 2027

Contract Term: January 10th 2027-June 30th 2027 (24 weeks) with option to renew on a permanent or multi-year contract starting July 1st, 2027

Place of Work: Whitehorse, Yukon Territory

Rate/Hours: $31.22 per hour (current Yukon living wage) / 30 hours per week

Benefits:
-Health benefits with dental
-2 Weeks Vacation (up to 4 weeks per year upon contract renewal)
-2% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) per year upon contract renewal

Indigenous Summer Play Readings may be wrapped for the season, but Ndoo Tr’eedyaa Gogwaandak (Forward Together) - Vuntut Gwitchin Stories are available online year-round!

In 2018 Gwaandak Theatre, led by Patti Flather and Leonard Linklater, partnered with the Vuntut Gwitchin Government to find new ways to share traditional stories and celebrate the Gwich’in language.

The result was a series of radio plays recorded in 2019 with both Gwich’in and English casts: Ch’iitsii Khał Datl’oo (The Blue Cruiser), Tl’oo Thał (Grass Pants), and Vah Srigwehdli’ (The One Who Survived), as well as an English language version of Shanaghàn Neekaii Nanaa’in Hah (Two Old Women and the Bushman).

The completed radio plays, their booklets, and creator bios, as well as the story behind the stories (Our Journey, Forward Together), can be found at vuntutstories.ca.

Thank you to all of the actors who joined Gwaandak Theatre throughout the 2026 Indigenous Summer Play Readings and helped share the first presentations of Ämbäya Shäw/Big Aunties in Dawson City, Inuvik, and Whitehorse -

Desirae Anderson Umą Łakan, Jules BEE, Ayak Gloria deVilliers, Dez, Jade Lacosse, Kikchuks / Rae Mombourquette, Trinity, Kelly Deels Vittrekwa, and Friends

We also extend a very special thank you to playwright and director, Christine Genier, as well as Artistic Associate, Tyra Ashauntie, who also both appeared actors in all three communities and whose artistry and support made this tour possible.
