I'm a Whitehorse-based mom of three who has finally found my crafting niche: making lots of round things out of wool and bath fizz that's good for the earth, good for you and good for fun! But I love making them and they fit together with ME at least...
I've been making things out of wool for more than a decade, even going so far as to unravel discarded sweaters and re-knit into new items in a bi
d to reduce waste and make, make, make. Then, I discovered felting and the firm, permanent connection between wool and laundry was forged in the white-hot ovens of a house with three kids and cloth diapers and reducing dryer times. I choose only undyed Canadian wool to make dryer balls because the dyeing process is environmentally harmful and unnecessary, so you can use these with whites and have no worried about dye transfer. I love the feel of the wool and making dryer balls is a tactile, meditative pleasure. My parents are both scientists and I have spent so much time in labs that making things fizz was an instant YES. I made some for Easter for my kids to sub some sugar without losing the fun and found out that other folks like that too. So I worked on a recipe that's fun, economical and above all NO MESS so parents are happy to get them and kids are excited to use them. They are a perfect sub for traditionally sugar soaked activities: party favours, potty training rewards, evening bath lure or gifts. I love making fizzies and I hope lots of kids get to try them out.
