My client brought me a handful of separate ideas: he wanted a woman’s face, a Hannya mask, and really liked the vibe of kitsune masks. He trusted me to connect the dots.

We used delicate, sharp linework for the portrait, then accented her features with red kitsune-inspired markings.

The ultimate goal? A full Japanese Neo-Traditional sleeve. My next idea is to have a stylized Kitsune fox trail from this upper piece and climb straight down the forearm.

Grateful for the souls who stepped into my chair and left with a piece of my art, and to every artist who inspired me.

Now for anyone whose been in my chair for the past few months have also heard about my plans to tattoo my boyfriend’s shin. We did a huge 10+ hour sitting the night before the Expo (he still helped us all weekend long and even held hand while she got a particularly painful spot of her foot tattooed 🤍) and entered it into the Neo-Traditional contest on Friday night. While we didn’t win, it did make it to the second round and the feedback left me proud of the piece and the energy behind it. I’m eager to put even more hours into it (not sure how excited is for more shin-blasting though 🫣)

Overall I learned a ton, pushed myself, and left even more motivated to grow and sharpen my craft. This is just the beginning.

What a difference a year makes! I was brought the fun challenge of doing a matching flower to complete this beauties chest piece.

Let’s talk growth. It’s inevitable and a natural part of this craft. I wanted to get this video as a “before and after” of sorts to capture that growth. Even just a year apart, your craft will grow with you so long as you keep striving to learn. We also went back and brought the original flower and her sleeve back to life with a second round of blackwork and shading; stay tuned for the full reveal!
