The Durham School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance is a new and innovative performing arts organization in the GTA east, whose aim is to help students to discover passion for dance while guiding them towards their full artistic potential. DSBCD offers high quality training in R.A.D ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, tap, acro, musical theatre and voice; while motivating students to achieve their highe

st levels of artistic achievement. In addition to our faculty, we believe in bringing in leading guest teachers and choreographers to compliment our students training. Versatility is a vital component of success in a student’s training, and we believe in exposing our students to as many different artistic perspectives as possible. DSBCD believes that a solid and strong foundation in ballet and contemporary dance allows for students to reach heightened levels of excellence in all genres of dance. High levels of achieved ballet and modern technique allows students to have an added advantage in pursuing training in all genres of dance. We offer recreational classes in addition to our competitive/performance team. We value the experience and tools dancers gain from the competition experience and are planning on an exciting competitive season throughout Ontario as well as in the US. Acceptance into the competitive team is by an audition process. In addition to our competitive season, we believe in placing great value on performance opportunities. The essence of dance is meant to be shared as artistic expression., and it is through the cultivation of this aspect that student’s creativity flourishes. With our established relationships with schools and organizations in Toronto and New York City, we are looking forward to creating unique situations to further broaden our students perspective in the global dance community. It is important to us to properly prepare our students for the dance world at large, we understand that not every student plans to pursue a professional career; however we believe that the discipline, strength and creativity instilled by the study of dance prepares students to succeed in any field they choose.

Yesterday’s Summer Solstice Recital was one of those rare days that reminds you why this work matters.

Not because of the costumes, the choreography, or even the performances themselves, although there was so much beauty on stage, but because of what existed between the moments. The encouragement backstage. The pride in a parent’s eyes. The friendships. The laughter. The sense of belonging.

At DSBCD, we are building a community where everyone belongs—where different ages, experiences, and perspectives come together through a shared love of dance.

From our youngest dancers taking their first steps across the stage to our advanced students performing with remarkable artistry and dedication, every piece contributed to something larger than itself. There was excellence. There was joy. There was connection.

Today, we are filled with gratitude.

To our students: thank you for your commitment, courage, and willingness to share your gifts with us.

To our families: thank you for the trust you place in us and for the countless ways you support your children and this community.

To our faculty and staff: thank you for the care, expertise, and generosity you bring to this work. Your impact reaches far beyond the studio walls.

And to everyone who joined us yesterday—thank you for helping create an atmosphere that felt warm, welcoming, and deeply meaningful.

The performances were beautiful, but what stays with us the most is the feeling in the room. A feeling of people coming together. A feeling of joy. A feeling of community.

For that, and for all of you, we are profoundly grateful. 💙

Summer is the perfect time to dance.

Join us every Tuesday in July for our Ballet & Acro Combo classes, where dancers will develop strong technical foundations while building confidence, coordination, flexibility, musicality, creativity, and strength.

Acro combines the artistry of dance with the athleticism of gymnastics. Dancers will work on age-appropriate skills in a fun, supportive environment while developing body awareness, balance, coordination, flexibility, and strength.
Classes are taught by experienced dance educators and are designed for both new and returning students.

Ages 3–5 • 5:00 PM
Ages 6–8 • 6:00 PM

July 7, 14, 21, 28
Only $85 + HST for all 4 weeks.

As we close another unforgettable competition season, we are overwhelmed with gratitude, pride, and so much love for this incredible team. 💙✨

This season was a beautiful reflection of everything DSBCD stands for — fostering individuality, artistry, creativity and excellence. Each dancer brought something uniquely their own to the stage, and watching them grow in both confidence and character throughout the season has been one of the greatest gifts.

Beyond the performances, the awards, and the long competition weekends, what made this season truly special was the way our dancers showed up for one another. The encouragement backstage, the friendships, the resilience, the teamwork, and the genuine love shared within this team created something far bigger than dance. At DSBCD, we are so proud to cultivate an environment where dancers are encouraged to be fully themselves while striving for excellence together.

To our extraordinary faculty — thank you for pouring your hearts, knowledge, creativity, and care into these dancers every single day. To our amazing dance parents and our entire DSBCD community — thank you for your unwavering support, trust, and belief in what we do. This season would not have been possible without all of you behind the scenes lifting these dancers up every step of the way.

And to our dancers: thank you for inspiring us endlessly. Your dedication, artistry, work ethic, and love for one another made this season unforgettable. The growth we witnessed on and off the stage was remarkable, and we could not be more proud of the humans and artists you are becoming.
