We are entering the final weekend of the wonderful show "Visual Melody" by Volker Steigemann. Volker is well-known as an accomplished and highly creative wood carver here on Cortes, but not everyone knows that he is also the maker of spectacular pencil drawings. The current exhibition features a delightful collection of recent carved pieces, paired with a selection of wonderful pencil drawings that range from quick sketches to masterworks of attention and high detail. It is a real treat to see the range of possibility within an individual artist's production, and to get a feel for the workings of his very creative mind.
We hope you will visit the gallery this weekend and help us to celebrate this wonderful local artist. He will be giving a drawing demonstration on Friday September 4th at 7pm, which will be followed by a lively Q&A and an opportunity to practice your own drawing, if you are so inclined. Please bring a notebook or sketchbook and some drawing tools if you wish to participate in the drawing session after the demonstration. (All welcome, admission by donation)
The gallery will also be open on Saturday and Sunday September 5 & 6, from 2-6pm each day. Don't miss this chance to see a truly magical installation of Volker's work, complete with flocks of Geese suspended gracefully from the ceiling.
