My gosh - times flies - even in 'lockdown'!
Made if through the winter - even with the deepfreeze in January.
No shearing this year - some will possibly get their blankets removed - slow & steady with scissors! Most are older & don't grow the density or length anymore & will do OK. Have some good spots for them to get under trees or in shelters IF the heat comes.
Doing fine - making good use of my time. Started to go through the basement. Really don't go down there a lot over the past number of years. Re-discovering many things. Went into the toys! Got them all lined up & the kids sure had lots to play with. Gave some of son's to his little man. Think they both were happy.
Then there is the sewing room. Sam was right - could open my own fabric shop!!! Some of it I will never use. So it is being re-homed. Not sure about the rest. Some quilts in progress that will be added to. Been interesting!
There is still fibre to work on - sort/grade/clean - think there will always be that to get done. And in the evenings I work on knitting/crochet projects.
The time is used pretty well.
Do hope that this BIG bump in our roads will smooth out soon. Wondering what all the stats will be, what can be done to eliminate or slow down this little rascal virus, & how our world & life will change because of it.
Sure had thrown everything for a loop.
Wish for all to be safe - healthy - content & be able to manage with all that results.

Spent last Saturday helping friends with their shearing day! Lots of super fleeces to sort/grade.
Waiting to hear when my shearing date will be. Don't have as many 'super' fleeces - but will be a few for processing.
One of the old boys lost a lot of weight over a 2 week period. Has had about 4 bad winters. So - extra beet pulp along with alfalfa, yogurt (peach is his favourite!), 2nd cut alfalfa hay & twice a day attention for 3 wks has him much improved.
Glad for the little rain we've gotten - sure has allowed the grass to grow.
They've been enjoying the day paddocks.
FINALLY - the water holding tank has thawed! Had a hose out to their main tank for the past near month. So nice to be able to just pull up the handle & fill now.
Hope to get the pacshack cleaned out soon - then that will be added to the compost piles. Great for the gardens!
May long weekend - so thinking of garden planting!

Well -February has blasted us with COLD! Not been this 'chilly' for an extended time for a number of years!
Pleased to see a plus this morning! BUT, then the breeze is up.
Need to get some more hay. Alpacas have been going after the bales pretty good. Need that extra to get them through the cold. Thank goodness they can get in out of the wind.
April is less than 6 weeks away!
Wanting to be outside!

Here we are - first month of 2019 nearly over!
Did some more yarn dyeing before Christmas! Not sure why I have a 'need' when should be getting set for Dec. 25th!
Attended fewer Christmas markets than the year before, but the hours were longer. Only did one that was out of town.
New Year's resolutions involve fibre! A little hard to spread out inside during the winter - but making a strong attempt. Fibre bags line the living room! As I do a fleece, the varying qualities go to their labeled bags!
So far about 30 are set for the mill - looking to get some yarn & rovings done.
Have knit a couple headwarmers & pair of wrist warmers. Plus working on a braided scarf idea.
Hoping for a great spring & for it to come when it should! We sure need moisture - my area does not have a lot of snow cover - yes, I know - Feb & Mar could make up for that! So some good April rains would be most welcome.
Plan to get into the fibre trailer to sort what is there - then the bags from the garage will be have a new home.
Just keeping warm & busy!

Weather turning to winter mode! Gets the creative juices flowing. Been doing some dyeing again! Will post photos when done!
Product all set to go into the truck - first market is the Jack Frost one on Nov 17 at Centennial School in Wetaskiwin! Hope to see a great turn out!

I've gotten a note from FB that I've not posted here for a long time. Checked - and boy- are they right! Not a lot has changed other than a few of the oldsters have passed. For the most part, they had been born here & were rarely off the property - maybe for a show or two.

The weather went into winter mode so early this year - mid-September! Totally off, The farmers have a lot of field work left with crops still to be taken off. Hay is awful this year. Got less than 1/2 the number of bales compared to last year & NO second cut. Only need about 10-15 round bales & they are being elusive.

Tried to work more on fibre - found the heat of the summer not conducive, even being in the garage.

Now prepping for a few Christmas markets. Product is packed & working on a couple of new ideas. The travel to other places was good last year as the roads were pretty clear. Always a concern when venturing out.

The family has grown by one! The oldest granddaughter is overseas teaching this year. The next 2 are in University! That leaves 1 in grade school & then the baby. Until late summer, all were still in Alberta.

Take care all! Fingers crossed for a decent winter - may there be good breaks in the weather & dare we hope for an early spring?

December 31, 2016. Much better weekend compared to last Friday & Saturday! Essentially a blizzard with travel horrid. Gather, tho that traffic on QE2 is slow today with lots of icy areas & many visiting the ditches. Areas mentioned were near the 13 & QE 2 area & Leduc area. Keep safe all.

Chores done for the LAST time this year. Going pretty smoothly. And only Jan, Feb & Mar left before (hopefully) warmer weather.
Can already notice the days are getting slightly longer. Nice to get up & it is NOT totally dark.

Enjoyed the Markets this year. Not as good for sales - but nice to hear people are more aware of alpaca & the products that can be created. Do have a couple of orders that are near complete.

Onward to 2017 - YES - still lots of fleeces to go through. Wonder if I can put a super big dent in it all this coming year? Any progress is great. AND I did nearly have room for the truck in the garage. Nearly - as there is a MULE sitting in the truck spot at the moment. Just need to decide if I REALLY want or need it. Would be different than the quad that has served my needs well for about 17 years! Liam seemed to enjoy the Mule.
