Yesterday summer showed up and brought us heat, was a bright and sunny 30°C! While Norman enjoyed his wet down cooler before and after the event, I was relying on a soaked wild rag to help take the edge off. We both do what we can to stay cool!
Donkeys are built for the heat... me? Not so much! 😂
Donkeys are desert animals, so they're naturally well-equipped to handle hot weather. Their large ears are packed with blood vessels that act like radiators, helping release excess body heat. They also have an efficient metabolism that helps conserve water and tolerate higher temperatures better than many other animals.
One thing our donkeys really appreciate on a hot day is access to cool, lush grass. The moisture in fresh grass can help contribute to their hydration, so a big thank you to the wonderful venues that let us provide a little complimentary lawn-mowing service along the way! 😅
Even though donkeys are heat-tolerant, they still need extra care during hot weather. We always make sure they have fresh water, shade whenever possible and we monitor them closely for any signs of heat stress. Their health and comfort will always come first.
Hot days don't stop us from making memories, we just take a few extra steps to keep everyone happy, healthy, and comfortable. ❤️🫏
