This tattoo has been more than 20 years in the making! 💜

For her 50th birthday, she dreamed of getting an iris tattoo but life had other plans, and the idea stayed tucked away for years.

After unexpectedly losing her husband, the tattoo evolved into something even more meaningful and she found her way to my studio. Together we incorporated his signature into the stem of the iris—a beautiful way to keep a piece of him close.

What started as a long-awaited iris became something even more personal. It’s always an honour to be trusted with tattoos like these. 💖

“Why does the orange have tattoos?” 🍊

There’s actually a pretty personal story behind this piece.

A lot of tattoo apprentices practice on oranges during the beginning stages of learning because the texture is somewhat similar to skin. So when this design was being planned, we thought it would be meaningful to tattoo the orange itself. 😇

The tiny tattoos on the orange are replicas of her real finger tattoos, and the piece was placed right above one of the very first tattoos I ever did years ago!!

It ended up becoming a small symbol of where my tattoo journey started, the early stages of learning, and the person who helped me finally begin. Thank you ❤️

Reflecting on last year’s Okanagan tattoo convention reminded me that growth usually starts with feeling uncomfortable first. ✨

This was my very first convention and it was so exciting!! But also nerve wracking 😅 So many incredible artists and people in one room definitely pushes you outside your comfort zone.

But honestly, I think that’s important. 🙏🏼

Every experience like this makes me better, more focused, and even more passionate about creating work that people will wear proudly for life 😇

Most clients come in with a vision—but not always a clear plan for how it should translate to a tattoo.

That’s where I step in 🫶🏼

I’ll guide the design, flow, and details so it doesn’t just look good 👉🏼 it actually works on your body and holds up over time.

I ended up framing this drawing and displayed it in my studio. When a client saw it and connected with it, we turned it into something permanent 🥰

One of the biggest fears I hear 👉🏼 “What if my color tattoos don’t age well?”

And honestly… that’s a valid concern.

I don’t design my color pieces to just look good on day one - I think about how everything is put into the skin and how they’ll settle into the skin and age over time.

With pieces like this, I’m thinking about:
• contrast that won’t disappear
• tones that won’t turn muddy, or fade unevenly
• and enough structure to hold the design as it heals, especially when using some soft colors like this

That’s why I don’t rush the process or just copy what looks good online.

Every choice—colour, depth, placement—is intentional so you’re not just loving it now but still proud of it years from now 😇
