Description of Play
The inventor Sir Claud Amory is left with a bitter taste in his mouth when the formula for his powerful new explosive is stolen by someone staying in his own house. Seeking a swift remedy, Sir Claud locks the doors and switches off the lights to allow the thief to replace the formula, no questions asked. But the darkness brings death, and Hercule Poirot is left to unravel a tangle of family feuds, old flames and suspicious guests to find the killer and prevent a catastrophe.

Cast Breakdowns
British accents are encouraged, but not required.

Dr. Carelli (male, 30s-60s). Suave with an Italian accent. Claims to be a friend of Lucia Charming and suspicious.

Miss Treadwell (female, late 20s-60s). The faithful servant who knows all “the dirty laundry: of her employers”.

Sir Claud Amory (male, 50s plus). The Lord of the Manor, who has no affection for his relatives and is devoted solely to his scientific discoveries.

Caroline Amory (female, 40s plus). Claud s dotty younger maiden sister who never stops talking. Conservative, innocent and unknowingly funny.

Richard Amory (male, 30s plus). Claud s son and wife of Lucia. He would much rather pursue a military career than be under his father’s thumb.

Lucia Amory (female, mid-20s plus). Richard’s half English and half Italian wife. Speaks perfect English. She is devoted to her husband, but has a mysterious past.

Barbara Armory (female, mid 20s plus). Claud's orphaned niece. A modern young woman who lives a bit on the wild side. She wants a husband to take her away from her dreary life.

Edwina Raynor (female, 30s plus). Claud s faithful secretary. Observant, intelligent and reserved. Is able to understand Claud s scientific discoveries.

Dr. Graham: (male, 30s plus). Sir Claud’s doctor, intelligent, logical. Presents facts as he sees them.

Hercule Poirot: (male, 40s plus). A famous detective from Belgium. He has a great sense of dry humour and a sense of the ironic. Often times only Hastings gets his jokes.

Captain Hastings (male, 30s plus). Poirot's right-hand man. Acts as Poirot’s sounding board. He has a great sense of humour and is generally good natured.

Inspector Japp (male, 30s plus). In charge of local police. Rough around the edges.

Johnson (male, 20s plus). Constable.
