Arts in the Park

Arts in the Park Live Music at Wye Lake Park
Every Saturday at 4pm
June 7 - August 30 2014 Arts in the Park was created for the purpose to bring the community together.

We want to see the youth inspired to pursue the arts; families to have quality time together, and we want business owners to feel proud about supporting such a great event and to benefit profitably as tourists pass through our town. We have so many talented individuals, and what better time then now to bring the spotlight out? Hope to see many out and supporting our locals!

The Town has just put in an application to Arts Fund, and will be putting two more applications -one with Lotteries Yukon and Culture Quest. We will once again be sending letters out to businesses within the Yukon for their support (in-kind or financially) to make 2014's season bigger and better! We need your help though - begin to spread the word! Arts in the Park will run June 7, 2014 to September 13, 2014, every Saturday, with a new "youth performance" one Wednesday a month! If you or your band is interested (for either an opening act or main act) please let me know and I will schedule you in!

Arts in the Park has come to an end - what a fantastic summer! I am so grateful to our sponsors and to everyone who came out to enjoy the live music. I learned a lot during these three months! I will be speaking to Steve Slade about looking at getting a contract with Whitehorse and Teslin to be able to fund the project and to have more singers available to come to Watson Lake.
I will be keeping tabs on this page and will update it at least once a month with news on next year and what is going on - stay tuned! Thank you all again!

This weekend Kelvin Smoler is performing at Wye Lake Park at 4pm! Here is his bio:
Kelvin is an MC from Whitehorse, YT, currently studying Business Administration at Capilano University in North Vancouver, BC. He was first influenced by freestyling over instrumentals, which soon began his writing career in 2003. He was part of two crews in Whitehorse, until they broke up. Kelvin decided to polish his style and creativity by receiving his diploma for Recording & Sound Design at Columbia Academy, in Vancouver. Upon completing his first solo album, "I'd Rather this Pace" in the summer of 2010, he strives to reach new heights with many more projects he is currently working on.
This is the second last Arts in the Park - come on out!!

I also want to thank Culture Quest for their sponsorship of Arts in the Park - without them and our local businesses (Super A, Help & Hope, Bluestone Holdings, Stampeder's B&B, A Nice Motel & Bee Jays Services) this would not be possible! THANK YOU!

Nina Camilli and Steve Slade will be performing this Saturday!! Be sure to come out and support our local musicians within the Yukon - Arts in the Park is wrapping up in another three weeks! Should be a beautiful Saturday, so see you there!

This weekend we have Kim Beggs from Whitehorse and I have heard so many great things about her and her musical talent. She and Fawn are good friends, so you know you are going to get a great personal show :) Performance begins at 4pm at Wye Lake - see you there!

Its been awhile since this page has been updated, but I want to thank Barbara Chamberlin, Nina Camilli, Lindsay Muller, Kenny Welsh, and Claire Ness for coming out and performing - you all were amazing (so I am told!) and were enjoyed by all!

Daniel Martin will be here tomorrow to perform at 4pm and I am really looking forward to having him! Be sure to drop by even if it's just for a bit. We will finish up at 6pm so then everyone can head over to the summer solstice art show and cook off! Below is Daniel's bio :)
Daniel Martin is a Canadian musician out of Vancouver BC. Daniel has crossed Canada over 20 times, playing over 600 shows. With radio airplay and multiple TV appearances, he has gathered quite the following from coast to coast. His unique style of bluegrass rock/multi-layering loop-pedal action is quite memorable, and a performance not to be missed. His new album "Constant Dreamer", Which features Shaun Verreault of Wide Mouth Mason, will be available at his June 22nd performance. For more information, check out www.danielmartinmusic.ca

Craig Cardiff's performance was fabulous! I have been waiting (along with a couple others from Watson Lake) to see him live for quite a few years! He definitely did not disappoint and even left some free cd's for those who would like them - so if you are interested let me know :)

The Town will also be putting on a Father's Day BBQ from 5-6pm this Saturday! It will be by Donation and all proceeds go to funding Arts in the Park :)
